THE MAGIC MILL Congratulations on your purchase of the Magic Mill Wheat Grinder. The Magic Mill is designed to provide an easy, fast, economical, and fun way for you to grind whole grains such as wheat, rye, corn and rice into usable cereal and flour. Your Magic Mill is constructed of the finest components available to assure you of a product with dependability and long life.
GETTING TO KNOW YOUR MAGIC MILL By becoming familiar with the various parts of the Magic Mill, it will be much easier for you to use and maintain it. CABINET – The cabinet is constructed of furniture-core hardwood polished to a fine walnut or maple finish. The cabinet should be treated like any fine piece of furniture. By doing this, your cabinet will maintain its beautiful polish for years to come. HOPPER – The grain hopper is covered by an attractive hinged lid. The grain is fed through a sanitary 18-8 brushed stainless steel lid into the milling chamber. The hopper and milling chamber can be kept clean by cleaning all the excel flour dust from the interior with a soft bristle brush. Any stubborn accumulations of flour can be quickly removed by using a damp cloth and rubbing gently. Periodic cleaning of your mill will keep it operating smoothly for many trouble-free years. STONES – Two rugged stones, each 2” thick, make up the heart of the mill. The stones feature an exclusive vertical stone milling process as well as an interstone design allowing 100% stone ground flour. The stones are manmade of completely inert materials. To clean the stones, allow all wheat to grind out of the stones, then brush them off as you clean the hopper. GRINDING ADJUSTMENT – The easy-to-use positive stone adjustment lever at the rear of the motor allows you to grind anything from a course cracked wheat cereal to a fine pastry flour. The grinding adjustment is built in as part of the motor and will provide accurate grinding for the life of the mill. FLOUR DRAWER – This 18-8 stainless steel drawer has a twenty-six cup capacity. It is submersible for easy cleaning. It fits snugly into the mill for dust-free grinding. It bears the National Health Fe3deration seal of approval. MOTOR – The heavy duty 3/4 hp. motor has been scientifically designed to be used with the Magic Mill. It is designed to grind grain quickly and efficiently. (In only an hour it will grind approximately 50 lbs. of wheat into baking flour, or 120 lbs. into cracked wheat.)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING MANUAL HANDLE 1. Unplug the mill from any power source. 2. Remove black plastic cap on shaft at rear of motor with pliers or screwdriver. 3. Assemble manual handle: a) Attach black plastic handle so that it extends from opposite side of notch. b) Tighten nuts toward each other to leave black plastic handle free to turn 4. Attach hooked end of manual handle to shaft at rear of motor. CAUTION: Read Carefully. If the handle is attached to the wrong side of the metal crank and if the motor is accidentally turned on, it could cause the metal crank and handle assembly to be thrown, causing damage or personal injury. NOTE: Manual handle will not function well if there is not wheat in the hopper.
USING YOUR MAGIC MILL CAUTION: Before using your Magic Mill, please carefully read the following instructions. PRIMING YOUR MILL Your new Magic Mill needs to be primed before you begin using it. This will clean out any loose stone dust that may have accumulated in the stones during manufacturing and shipping. 1) Remove the piece of cardboard between the stones by lifting the wood top and removing the inner stainless steel lid. After loosening the adjustment arm at rear of motor the cardboard can be removed from between the stones and discarded. NOTE: The inner stainless steel lid is easily removed by pretending that the front edge is hinged to the front of the mill. Pull the lid toward you and lift it out. 2) Replace the inner stainless steel lid, making sure the feed hole is aligned with the hole in the grinding stone. The wheat runs through these holes to the grinding chamber in the stones. 3) Plug the Magic Mill into any 110 AC power source. Turn the motor on at the rear of the motor. Set the grinding adjustment lever at about 5 o’clock which is the coarse grind adjustment shown in illustration no. Fill the hopper with good clean wheat and run through on coarse grind. 4) Set the adjustment lever at approximately ten o’clock which is the medium grind setting. Run previously ground cracked wheat in flour pan back through the mill on medium grind setting. Turn off mill and empty flour pan, disposing of flour. NOTE: Always move the grinding adjustment lever while the motor is running. The grinding adjustment lever should not be moved while the motor is off.

5) Set adjustment lever all the way over to peg, or at two o’clock, which is the fine grind adjustment. Fill the grain hopper again and run through completely. 6) Turn the mill off. Brush all flour from flour chamber walls down into flour pan. Remove flour pan and dispose of all flour. Your mill is now ready to use. GRINDING INSTRUCTIONS The Magic Mill is capable of grinding any dry grains with a moisture content of 10% or less. The most popular grains for grinding are wheat, rye, triticale, rice and corn. 1) With the stainless steel inner lid in place, and with the motor running, set the grinding adjustment lever to the desired setting: coarse, medium, or fine. NOTE: When grinding on the fine setting for more than 15 minutes, you will occasionally want to adjust the lever counter clockwise to compensate for any stone expansion that might bring the stones too close together. 2) Feed the grain into the hopper and allow all the grain to grind through before turning off the motor. 3) Remove the flour drawer. The flour is ready for use. Note: Some grains, and especially soybeans, have a high moisture or oil content. It is recommended that when grinding these materials you do one of the following: 1. Mix grain or soybeans with dry wheat before grinding. This works well with recipes using both wheat and soybeans. Mix according to the ratio called for in the recipe; or a ration of 80% wheat to 20% soybeans or other grain. 2. Place soybeans or other grain 1/2 inch deep on a flat cookie sheet and bake at 200 degrees for approximately 30 minutes with the oven door open. This can be repeated if necessary. GRIND ONLY THE AMOUNT OF FLOUR NEEDED. Dr. Kelly, a cancer specialist in grapevine, Texas, asserts that nearly all essential vitamins oxidize from the flour within three days.
CAUTIONS: 1. DO NOT OPERATE THE MAGIC MILL WHILE IN PHYSICAL CONTACT WITH WATER! As with any electrical appliance, electrical shock is possible if the Magic Mill is operated while standing on a wet surface – or if the operator is in immediate contact with water.
2. DO NOT CUT OFF – OR BY PASS THE ELECTRICAL GROUND SUPPLIED WITH THIS UNIT. It is important that you ALWAYS operate your Magic Mill with the 3 prong electrical plug which is furnished with the machine. 3. IT IS PREFERABLE TO OPERATE YOUR MILL ON A SEPARATE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT IN YOUR HOME. If while operating your Magic Mill the electrical circuit trips or the fuse blows, YOUR CIRCUIT IS OVERLOADED! Should this happen, wait until the Magic Mill motor cools down, then clear the circuit of other operating 3
electrical appliances or lights, install new fuse or reset circuit breaker – and resume operation. 4. DO NOT OPERATE YOUR MAGIC MILL WITHOUT THE STAINLESS STEEL HOPPER LID BEING IN PLACE! Because of the speed of the fast moving stones, long hair, loose clothing or apron strings may get caught in the exposed stones if the mill is operating without the inner lid being in place! 5. DO NOT USE THE MAGIC MILL FOR ANY PURPOSE OTHER THAN GRINDING DRY GRAINS! The Magic Mill is designed and intended for the grinding of dry grain only; do not attempt to us it for other purposes such as grinding knives, tools, etc. 6. DO NOT PLACE ANY OBJECT IN THE GRAIN INTAKE HOLE SUCH AS PINS, NAILS, POPSICLE STICKS, SCREWS, BEE BEES, MARBLES, ETC. Placing any foreign objects in the intake hole of the grain hopper is very dangerous and can cause permanent damage. – and such action invalidates the mill warranty! 7. DO NOT PLACE FINGERS IN THE INTAKE HOLE OF THE GRAIN HOPPER OR STONE – as this could cause severe damage to or shortening of the fingers. SUMMARY: By following the instructions in this book, you will have years of safe, trouble free, and enjoyable use from your new Magic Mill!
