Micah Young Senior Software Engineer
[email protected] (415) 894-0048 New York City, NY OBJECTIVE To bring my talent and ambition to an innovative organization solving complex challenges in software and hardware-based product development. QUALIFICATIONS I am enthusiastic and dedicated, a passionate developer and a resourceful collaborator. With my broad scope of proficiencies in web and native application development, networking, database and systems administration, I craft sophisticated, attractive software solutions for real, complex problems. BACKGROUND 2011-Present Software Engineer, Technical Lead, Engineering Manager, Consultant. Pivotal Labs. New York, NY
As an engineer, consultant and technical lead for several Agile development teams delivering high quality software products, my duties spanned nearly aspect of Agile software development. My projects ranged from bootstrapped startups looking to scale, to nonprofits wanting to maximize social impact, to Fortune 100 enterprises positioning themselves to out-disrupt their competition. Most of my time was spent hands-on-keyboard developing following Extreme Programming and Agile principles: test-driven development, pair programming, and closely collaborating with our product and design team members to write and implement User stories based on user-centered design principles. Simultaneously, as a technical lead (“Project Anchor” in Pivotal terms), I was also responsible for the overall success of our client engagements by maintaining close feedback loops with our end-users, our client and product owners, and the rest of the Pivotal organization to ensure we were building the right features at the right time with the right budget. At time same time, I was an engineering manager, mentoring up to a dozen direct reports at one time and empowering them to set and meet their own career goals while maximizing their contribution to their projects and to Pivotal. 2009-2011 Independent Web Developer, Applications Consultant. Sacramento, CA
I worked with a variety of clients to develop original, consumer-focused websites and to modernize existing sites with social and brand-endearing features. All projects used Agile development concepts of use-case driven development, rapid iteration, tested deployments, and regular progress and budget reviews. Every platform offered customer-controlled content with custom CMS interfaces and CRM software integration. All sites were developed and tested to be cross-platform and full-featured, using HTML5 and JavaScript, degrading elegantly when needed, and functional across traditional and mobile platforms. 2006-2009 IT Support Specialist, Web Developer, Applications Consultant. Great Expressions Dental Centers. Miami, FL; Bloomfield Hills, MI.
My position began as an independent web developer, contracted to expand a legacy web-based employee management system. I was later hired on to oversee IT operations for 17 dental offices
in Florida, which expanded to include remote support for any of the company's offices across the eastern US. With the merger of my original employer, Consolident, Inc., into Great Expressions, I performed the IT-related aspects of the lengthy merger: inventory and asset tracking; inter-company education; and integration of the old and new business software. After the merger, my responsibilities grew to include Active Directory administration, database integration for our proprietary applications team, and web application development for corporate websites. 2005-2006 Independent Web Developer, IT Support Specialist, Audio Technician. New York, NY. Designed and developed a variety of websites ranging from personal blogs, retail e-commerce sites, print-to-web design conversions, and podcasting sites and feeds. The breadth and variety of projects allowed me to establish and diversify my skill set, while honing my core competencies in web development, systems administration, and customer relations.
2003-2005 Network Administration Student Assistant. California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA. I worked for the University's Network Administration department in a variety of roles including end-user support through trouble-ticket management and phone support; collaborating with field technicians to diagnose problems and reconfigure networking hardware locally and remotely; and inventory tracking and visualization by locating and cataloging our hardware assets. Beyond the normal scope of a student assistant, I created custom UNIX applications that integrated with our enterprise network management software to address critical department tasks such as tracking network use-policy violators. EDUCATION 1999-2005 California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA. Liberal Studies Major. Minor in Spanish. REFERENCES Matt Parker, Associate Director, Pivotal NYC,
