On The Spot News For the week ending April 24, 2015 As a reminder, ISTEP starts next week. Below is our schedule for testing. Please take the schedule into consideration if you have appointments that must be scheduled over the next two weeks. In addition, please help your child do his/her best on the test by getting plenty of rest and eating a healthy breakfast each morning. Most importantly, provide words of encouragement to build your child’s confidence and reduce stress. We will be reading a novel, The Home Run King, over the next two weeks. There should be no reading homework during the novel. I will try to keep math homework minimal and provide additional time in class for completion. Next Week’s Goals Reading: Students will be able to used text based details to respond to comprehension questions. Weekly Activities: Ask your child questions about what he/she is reading. Your child should use details from the text to support his/her answer. Math: Students will be able to identify the mean (average), median (number in the middle), and mode (the number that repeats most often) in a set of data. Weekly Activities: Provide a set of numbers and ask your child to find the mean, median, and mode for each set (students may need to use a calculator to find the mean). i.e. 2, 3, 6, 7, 7: Mean = 5, Median = 6, Mode = 7
