Diocese of Grand Rapids Parish Support for Catholic Schools There is no substitute for a quality Catholic school education. As a result, parishes in the Diocese of Grand Rapids support the ministry of Catholic schools through a high level of financial investment in the Catholic schools that serve the children of registered and active parishioner families, even if their parish does not have its own school. This significant financial support is contributed by the family’s parish directly to the Catholic parish/school so that parishioner families can receive the “in parish tuition rate”. This parish support is a substantial benefit to families by making them eligible to receive the parishioner rate of tuition rather than the higher non-parishioner rate.
Parishes without schools:
Support for elementary students (K-8) is set at $1,200 per student for the school year 2016-2017 with an increase $50 per year for successive years. This support is granted to those parishioners who request it and have the support of their pastors. In return, with the acceptance of the support by the receiving parish, the parishioner shall receive the “in parish tuition rate”.
Support for secondary school students (9-12) is set at $1,200 for the school year 2016-2017 with an increase of $50 per year for successive years.
Parishes with schools operated or sponsored by a parish:
Parishes that operate and sponsor an elementary school are not obliged to support another elementary school but are expected to provide support at the secondary level (9-12).
Support for secondary school students (9-12) is set at $1,200 effective the school year 2016-2017 with an increase of $50 per year for successive years.
Please Note: It is not the intent of this increase in support to our diocesan schools to lower tuition but to provide additional funds for grants and scholarships and other development efforts to maintain excellent schools.
*Instructions: If you are a registered and active member of a parish and your situation meets the criteria of this policy, please complete the form and submit it directly to your pastor. It is highly recommended that families submit this form to their pastor in person. There will be no parish support until pastors have verified your parishioner status, and it is very helpful for pastors to associate names with faces. It is also strongly recommended that families maintain regular contact with the pastor while at Mass to give periodic updates regarding their experience at the Catholic school where they are enrolled.
