Also, this role added the responsibility of working on the next generation deduplication engine. Partook majority of this role alongside UWE's final year. Used R to analyse the deduplication potential and sparseness of customer datasets. The team needed to understand the traits of the backup data that their systems and algorithms were dealing with. Using R for data analysis and visualisation helped to elicit these traits. Contributed to a prototype deduplication system as part of a small focused team. Communed with HP Labs to put their theoretical algorithms into production. Responsible for improving C++11 development, by consolidating documentation into one place, using Doxygen.

Awards/Certifications Agile Scrum Practitioner
Nov 2013 Awarded as a certi cation of the completion of Radtac's Agile training course. They provided three days of dedicated onsite training at HewlettPackard. This ensured that every member of the deduplication team held a solid grasp on Scrum practises.

Software Engineering Intern Hewlett-Packard Limited Worked in the StoreOnce department on the deduplication engine. The deduplication team develops the underlying algorithms for minimising the size of stored backups. Responsibilities included -1-
software development, hardware management, documentation, and training. Managed, set up, and diagnosed the operation of large scale servers such as the HP StoreOnce B6200, for the entire team. This involved installing HP's customised Red Hat distribution, cable networking, and configuring storage devices. It also included developing scripts in Bash to automate the installation and management processes. Contributed to the Gen3 codebase using C++. Code reviews on the contributions of other members of the team were also performed. With the gained knowledge of deduplication, developed and presented training to employees joining the company.

Software Engineering Intern Gateway Systems Limited Worked alongside the software development team on .NET solutions. Gateway provided bespoke software solutions to large organisations within Bermuda. These solutions included website development, database management, and reporting solutions. Used C# to develop an automated email alert system. The system generated unique identifiers for each outgoing email. A company logo along with a URL would then be automatically embedded. This would allow for the tracking and analysis of email statistics.

Investigated the efficacy of low-cost, peer-to-peer volunteer computing networks during UWE's final year project. Using Python, MapReduce, and Protocol Buffers, was able to distribute work amongst Raspberry Pis over a network. This was able to improve the efficiency of computational algorithms. Worked in a team with Robotics and Forensic Security students to develop a handheld audio device for museums. This embedded system involved the use of Java for the audio, Python for the back end server, and C++ for the hardware drivers. Used Protocol Buffers to facilitate communication between the different systems. Completed courses such as Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, Analytical Modelling, and Computer Networks and Operating Systems.
Cleaned the communal play area for the sheltered cats on a weekly basis for a few months. Also, played with each of the cats to keep them entertained.
