Dairy Days Comes to Sully Historic Site; Enjoy Delicious Fun Discover the “whey” of the dairy at Sully Historic Site as you lend a hand to churn butter and crank ice cream. Sample the cool, creamy treats and then play historic games on the south lawn for a taste of 18th century life. Dairy Days are held on Fridays, July 3, 17, 24 and 31 and August 14, 21, and 28, 2015 from 1 to 4 p.m. Churning and cranking are done on the hour at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. New this year, along with the churning of vanilla ice cream will be a second, special summer flavor. Learn the history of ice cream in America that goes back to the 18th century. According to the International Dairy Foods Association, historic records indicate that George Washington spent approximately $200 for ice cream during the summer of 1790. In 1813, Dolley Madison served strawberry ice cream at President Madison's second inaugural banquet at the White House. At Sully, the Lee’s received an “ice cream mould of tin” in 1802. The cost is $7/person. A tour of the 1794 house is available for an additional cost.
