The substitute levy will generate $6.6 million for the District, which is the same collection rate of the current five-year levy. If the substitute levy passes, homeowners will pay the SAME COST as they do now with the current levy. Homeowners of a house with a value of $100,000, pay $182 a year; and homeowners of a house with a value of $200,000, pay $364 per year.

A substitute levy is not a new tax and would not cost community members additional dollars. Essentially, it substitutes the current 5.9 mill five-year emergency levy, originally passed in 2013, with the same revenue collection already in place. However, unlike other operating issues, a substitute levy would allow our District to receive additional revenue when there is new construction within District boundaries.

When will the current levy expire? The 5.9 mill 5-year emergency levy that originally passed in 2013, will be expiring on December 31, 2018. The 5.2 mill substitute levy will substitute the current levy and will not cost the taxpayers additional dollars.

A continuous levy will create stability for District students and the community, as well as maintain current programs and services and allow for the implementation of the current 5-year Strategic Plan without an increase in tax dollars. Strong schools equals a strong community.

How long will the substitute levy be in effect? The levy will remain in effect on a continuous basis.

The passage of the May 8 Substitute Levy will allow the District to maintain the programs and services that were brought back with the passage of the 5.9 mill 5-Year emergency levy in 2013. In addition, the District will be able to fully implement the current five-year strategic plan that was created through a collaborative effort with the students, staff, administrators, parents and community members. What programs and services were brought back with the passage of the 5.9 mill 5-year emergency levy in 2013? The passage of the 5.9 mill five-year emergency levy allowed the District to bring back a number of programs and services, including: • Seven reading intervention teachers • An additional six counselors • An additional three gifted intervention teachers • An additional five encore teachers at the elementary level to open up the ability for students to participate in art, music and physical education full-time • An expansion of 18 additional elective course offerings at the middle school and 30 at the high school level • An additional 11 teachers for electives • An increase in support staff hours • An increase in security and safety at the majority of District buildings • A restoration in busing services to the one mile radius and high school students
