Work conducted there has now been included in a journal article that has just been submitted for peer review at JAMA. • Logged changes to study protocols and submit changes to the Institutional Review Board. • Used excel, Stata, and R software for data management. • Created full-scale maps based on field study data using a combination of QGIS, InDesign, and Photoshop. • Reviewed field collection surveys and human interface effectiveness of data collection methods for The Bay Area Flu Study. • Worked on editing android tablet survey applications for Bangladesh field study data collection. Made sure that survey applications were easy to understand and use for field workers and allowed for seamless data collection.

Health Service Internship (HSI) is a highly sought program at UC Berkeley that places students in internships with health-related community organizations throughout the Bay Area, with an emphasis on public health. Coupled with the internship, students learn about major issues in the field of public health in a weekly discussion section. Was placed at the Women’s Day Time Drop in Center which is a non profit organization in Berkeley that aims to help low income and homeless women transition to a better lifestyle by providing them with services such as housing assistance, job search help, psychological help, food, and more. Main Job Responsibilities: • Managed the front desk and interacted with clients on a very personal level • Though I wasn’t a case manager or housing services manager and couldn’t help them directly through such assistance, I was able to lend a listening ear, something that they appreciated very much. Most of the clients had gone through some sort of trauma or hard life situations, and often times all they wanted was someone to talk to and hear their story, and I’m glad I was able to fill that role. I learned a lot from interacting with these clients. • Learned how the inner workings of a non-profit are organized, and what sorts of tensions and barriers arise in non-profits that prevent the organization from providing services in an efficient and impactful manner.

International House Berkeley Finalist – I-House World Wide Davis Peace Project

January 2016

The Davis Peace Project is an initiative funded by Kathryn W. Davis, whereby selected projects receive $10,000 in funding in order to put ideas of promoting peace to the test. The project fosters student initiative, innovation, and entrepreneurship focused on conflict prevention and resolution. My project was selected to represent I-House Berkeley in the I-House World Wide Davis Peace Project competition My proposal, “Banni Matadana”, literally translated to “Come, Let’s speak” is a public health initiative that aims to conduct two day health workshops in three villages of the rural Bengaluru district in the South Indian state of Karnataka. Open dialogue about health is a rarity for South Asian women, especially those belonging to rural communities, so our project aims to create a space that fosters this open dialogue. It is my strong belief that addressing a woman’s physical and mental health needs is imminent in fostering progress, peace, and happiness within a family and the community at large.

Finalist for a youth changemaker competition conducted during Stanford School of Medicine’s annual Health and Technology conference, MedicineX. Applied to the competition with my project, HealthyHum. Was selected from many college applicants across the country, in order to get access to appropriate resources and mentorship in order to pursue and make our project ideas a reality. Pitched my idea to experienced health entrepreneurs, physicians, and health professionals.
