Welcome from the Interim Head of School

As I reflect on this year, I continue to be amazed by our wonderful BrownellTalbot community. The warm welcome and support I have been given is a true testament to the generous spirit that abounds at B-T. That generous spirit has also been apparent, as I have had the pleasure of working with our Gala Chairs, Fatima and Fatima. Their dedication to making this evening meaningful to our School is going to have a lasting impact for years to come. In addition, the team of individuals they compiled to serve on the steering committee is truly amazing! My heartfelt thanks to our Chairs, the steering committee, and all of their families for the tireless hours dedicated to Gala 2015. To our amazing B-T families, thank you for sharing your children with us everyday. Watching them learn and work with our amazing faculty inspires me and gives me great hope for our future! With deep gratitude, Anne

Gala Chairs

With Much Gratitude 2014-2015 Gala Chairs

Fatima Basith & Fatima Khan We are humbled and honored to serve as Gala Co-Chairs this year. It has been great fun to envision a night of friendship and laughter. We hope you enjoy Gala 2015, an evening to celebrate our incredible community, friends, faculty, staff, alums and students. YOU are the “Bling” and “Brilliance of Brownell-Talbot”. We are thrilled to welcome Stacy and Bruce Simon as our Honorary Chairs. Thank you for your continued support, dedication and commitment to Brownell-Talbot. We have been fortunate enough this year to have the most amazing and energetic group of committee chairs and committee volunteers. Our sincere thanks to each and every one of you. Our heartfelt gratitude to the Brownell-Talbot staff for your support and enthusiasm throughout the year. We now proudly invite you to a night where we shine and inspire to

Learn, Think, Act and Lead.

Let’s “Bling” Together Gala 2015 2

Honorary Chairs Stacy & Bruce Simon

The Simon family has been an important part of the Brownell-Talbot family for many years. From serving as Gala Co-Chairs in 2008 to bringing snacks for classroom parties, Bruce and Stacy have been longtime avid supporters. Their oldest daughter, Talia, is a 2012 Brownell-Talbot graduate, and their youngest daughter, Ellie, attended B-T for several years. Naturally, their family understands, firsthand, the value of a B-T education. To that end, they continue to support the remarkable academic environment and special faculty and staff that all combine to create the educational experience found only at Brownell-Talbot. The Simon family is an ongoing example of the Brownell-Talbot mission which is to learn passionately, think critically, act responsibly, and lead with integrity.

“It is my sincere hope that everyone will consider giving generously to this very noble cause, the scholarship fund at Brownell-Talbot, so other students can gain access to the experience that has so richly helped shape who I am and who I hope to become. I love this school, and will remember my time here forever.” -Brownell-Talbot graduate

Receiving Your Merchandise Payment Options Quick Check is by far the easiest and fastest way to pay for winning bids. At the end of the evening, winning bidders who have used Quick Check are able to bypass cashier lines and go directly to the merchandise area to claim their items. To set up your account go to the Quick Check table as soon as possible and present either a signed check or a credit card for imprinting. If you have more than one winning bid, your purchases will be combined so that only one check or imprint is needed. • • • •

If you prefer, you may pay for your purchases with cash, check, or credit card. Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express credit cards are accepted. Please note, even if you entered your credit card information on the biddingforgood.com website we will need that information again on May 8. Due to security restrictions, School staff cannot access the credit card information from Bidding for Good. Whichever method you choose, payment in full is required by the end of the evening. Bling Raffle: According to Nebraska State Gaming regulations, you may purchase up to two raffle tickets by credit card. Additional tickets must be bought with cash or check.

Picking Up Your Merchandise 1. First, you need a PAID invoice — your invoice is your receipt. If you placed a winning bid in the Silent Auction, during dinner you will receive an invoice listing the items you have won and the amount due. If you have Quick Check the invoice will be marked PAID. If you do not have Quick Check, take your invoice to the cashier, where you may pay by cash, check, or credit card. See “Silent Auction Guidelines” on page 43. If you are a winning bidder in the Live Auction, a runner will take each winning bid to the cashier, where an invoice will be printed and, if time permits, delivered to you along with the details of your purchase. However, if you have not received your invoice by the end of the auction, please go to the cashier and ask for it. If you have Quick Check, the invoice will be marked PAID. If you do not have Quick Check, take your invoice to the cashier, where you may pay by cash, check, or credit card. See “Live Auction Guidelines” on page 17. 2. Now pick up your merchandise! Take your PAID invoice to the merchandise pickup area. Items will not be released without the presentation of a PAID invoice. Please make every effort to take your purchase(s) with you when leaving. Assistance will be available to help move large items. Any items not claimed the night of the auction will be available at BrownellTalbot School on Monday, May 11, 2015, beginning at noon. Any unclaimed items will be considered a donation to Brownell-Talbot or may be resold at a future Gala. • •

All bid sales are final. No refunds or exchanges on items will be made, except where specified. No representation is made with respect to the value or quality of merchandise.

I came to B-T 15 years ago looking for a school with a strong sense of purpose and vision, that would challenge me and help me to grow professionally. I have found that here at BrownellTalbot many times over. I found it in a supportive administration; in colleagues who are talented, dedicated and passionate about their work; in the families that partner with us in their children’s education; and, most of all, in the children themselves. They have touched my heart, made me laugh, and taught me more than they will ever know.

The sophomores have created a collage of Suminagashi monoprints that are sure to impress. The Japanese word “Suminagashi” translates literally as “spilled ink.” Centuries before the art of marbleizing papers was practiced in Western cultures, Japanese craftsmen created patterns by floating ink on the surface of water and transferring it to a sheet of paper.
