Charge Policy Administrative Rule (EF-R) The Greenwood School District 52 participates inthe National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) which permits the school system to offer free and reduced price meals to students who qualify. Effective July 1, 2017 the Child Nutrition Program must have a charge policy in place and cannot permit excessive and reoccurring charging of meals. Families who wish to apply for free or reduced priced meals must complete a new application each year. An application may be submitted at any time during the school year but it is strongly advised that an application be completed and returned to your child's school on or before the first day of school. Applicants are responsible for any meals purchased until a free or reduced application is completed and approved. Applications are available during registration or upon request from the cafeteria mangers, or from the main office. Student Meal Accounts All cafeteria purchases should be prepaid before meal service. The district offers a variety of methods for parents/legal guardians to fund their students’ meal accounts including The Child Nutrition Program allows for parents to prepay for their child's meals by logging on to the district website at www.greenwood52.org go to Quick Links choose the Pay Lunch Fees on Line link and set up an account for your child. This account also allows you to get detailed information about when you child is eating and what they are purchasing from their account. You can also send a check or money order by mail or send a check or cash by your child to give to their teacher at the Primary and Elementary or to the cashier in the cafeteria at the Middle/High. Charge accounts Charging of meals and special sales items is as follows for all Greenwood 52 students and staff: •

Primary, and Elementary students will be allowed to charge up to a maximum dollar equivalent of five (5) meals which will be known as the "account cap." o These meals will include anything on the menu.

Middle school students will be allowed to charge up to a maximum dollar equivalent to three (3) meals which will be known as the "account cap." o These meals will include anything on the menu.

High School students or Adults may not charge meals.

When a student has reached the "account cap”, they will be offered a designated menu alternate which consist of a peanut butter & jelly sandwich, fruit and milk. The cost for the designated menu alternate will be $.80 and will be payable to the District Office. A list of the students receiving the alternate meal will be given to the District office each month. Parent/guardians are responsible for payment of these meals to the Greenwood School District 52 office.

not have money on their account they cannot purchase these items. •

A parent/guardian can call the Food Service Director and have a block put on their child's account so they are not allowed to purchase extra items off their account.

The Child Nutrition Program has implemented an Auto Report through School Messenger in which parents will receive a low balance call if yourchild's account falls at $5.00 or below. If your child has a charge on their account you will also receive a call. These calls are made on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Balances Owed with No Response from Parent/Guardian: If the student's charges exceed $25.00 and payment is not received, at the discretion of the District Superintendent, Superintendent of Operations, school principal, and School Food Service Director, one or more of the following actions may be taken: 1. Prohibit participation in student programs such as field trips, athletic programs etc. 2. Prohibit student participation in senior activities or graduation exercises. 3. Greenwood Department of Social Service (DSS) may be contacted in relation to child neglect. End of the Year Procedure include: • NO student, teacher or staff can charge during the last four weeks of school. • All charges must be paid by the 2"d week in May in order to prevent the Child Nutrition account from closing out the year with unpaid balances. • Parents/ Guardians will receive a written request for "Payment in Full." • The Cafeteria Manager will mail parents a letter stating the amount owed the first week in May. • All charges not paid before the end on school will be carried forward into the next school year.
