The philosophy of Buena Vista City Public Schools is to inclusively identify gifted students and provide appropriately challenging and motivating curricula that meet the unique needs, interests, and abilities of these individuals, enable them to thrive in a global society, and exhibit genuine empathy for real-‐life problems and their fellow citizens.
are served Elementary students through a weekly pull-out program with trained gifted resource staff and differentiated instruction with the regular education teacher. Middle school students are served through a collaborative model and appropriately differentiated instruction in the regular education classroom. High school students have the option to take advanced courses such as Honors, Pre-Advanced Placement, Advanced Placement, and Dual Enrollment. Two Governor’s Schools are offered at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College: Field Ecology Summer Regional and Jackson River Governor's School for Science, Mathematics, and Technology School.
The following big ideas are incorporated into our K-‐12 curriculum: critical thinking, problem solving, communication, creativity, research/independent study/self-‐ directed learning skills, affective behaviors, and responsibility.
