WONKA FACTORY - DAY WILLY WONKA stands at the gates of his chocolate factory, as the five Golden Ticket winners - CHARLIE, AUGUSTUS, VIOLET, MIKE, and VERUCA - stand with their respective family members, all waiting to go inside. WONKA Greetings, Golden Ticket winners! Are you ready to enter my chocolate factory? Everyone cheers. WONKA (CONT’D) Then let us begin. Your tickets, please. AUGUSTUS My name is Augustus Gloop! He hands Wonka his ticket. WONKA Welcome, Augustus. Veruca gives Wonka her ticket. VERUCA Veruca Salt. Pleasure. WONKA The pleasure is all mine, I’m sure. Charlie approaches Wonka. A beat. GRANDPA JOE Well, give him the Golden Ticket, Charlie! CHARLIE Grandpa Joe, I thought you had it! GRANDPA JOE Me? You’re the winner!
2. WONKA I’m sorry, but if you don’t have a ticket, you can’t get in. But-Next!

Mike Teevee approaches Wonka. WONKA (CONT’D) Hello. Do you have your ticket? MIKE Aw nuts, I must’ve left it at home. WONKA I’m sorry, but-MIKE I have the e-mail confirmation on my phone! Mike shows Wonka his phone. WONKA Oh, that’s fine then! Mike enters the factory. WONKA (CONT’D) (to Charlie) Do you have an e-mail confirmation? CHARLIE (sighs) No. We’re very poor. GRANDPA JOE I share a bed with three other people. It looks quirky and whimsical, but it is deeply uncomfortable. WONKA I’m sorry, I can’t help you. Violet approaches Wonka. Hi, I--

3. CHARLIE (cutting her off) Maybe I’m on the list. I’m sorry?

CHARLIE There’s only five of us, surely there’s a list. WONKA Oh yes, here it is. Charlie Bucket. That’s me!
CHARLIE
WONKA Wonderful! Do you have valid I.D.? CHARLIE No. I’m 10. WONKA I’m sorry, nex-GRANDPA JOE Wait! I have the newspaper clipping announcing Charlie finding the last ticket! Grandpa Joe digs a folded up piece of paper from his pocket. WONKA Lovely, that will do just fine! Wonka gives it a once over. WONKA (CONT’D) I’m sorry. This isn’t you at all. CHARLIE What do you mean? WONKA This boy has a mustache. Wonka turns the page over to reveal a drawn-on mustache on Charlie’s face. CHARLIE Grandpa Joe!
4. GRANDPA JOE I’m sorry! Sometimes I get bored! I live in a bed! VIOLET Can I go in now? CHARLIE (hands her a piece of gum) Here, look, gum! Violet takes the gum and hoards it in the corner like an animal. CHARLIE (CONT’D) Now where were we? WONKA We weren’t doing anything. You were leaving. Goodbye. Wonka exits. CHARLIE Grandpa, what are we going to do? A beat. GRANDPA JOE (looking to Violet) Hey Charlie...Violet’s ticket is poking out of her purse. CHARLIE Grandpa Joe, no... GRANDPA JOE Just take it! She’s got gum, she’s fine! Take it! Charlie does. He stares at it. CHARLIE Oh my. You know, it feels good being bad. I should have done this a long time ago. Come on Grandpa Joe, let’s go in there and knock off these kids one by one. More chocolate for us! Yippee!
