NEWS Strachota won’t seek re-election to Assembly seat Rep. Pat Strachota will not seek another term in the state Legislature. Strachota represents the 58th Assembly District, which covers West Bend and surrounding areas. She was first elected to the post 10 years ago. Strachota announced Feb. 9 that she will conclude her service in Madison at the end of this term. She said the health of her 90-year-old mother “could be better” and had decided to spend more time with her. Strachota noted she has been an elected official for a quarter-century, as she served as a Washington County supervisor prior to being elected to the assembly. “I will continue to be deeply involved in pursuing this passion. I am confident that a good Republican will take my place, ”Strachota said. “I would like to thank everyone in the community

Basketball: KML girls rally past Germantown Rarely can a basketball coach be happy when his team commits 25 turnovers. While Kettle Moraine Lutheran girls basketball Coach Jason Walz wished his team had fewer turnovers against Germantown Feb. 11, he was pleased with the end result — a 66-55 win over the Warhawks. “In this game we had to face the pressure and I was happy,” Walz said of Germantown’s frenetic, full-court press, which is carried out by several shifts of players. “It’s not many times as a head coach you can be happy with 25 turnovers, but this is one of those times where they (Germantown) play a unique style and you have to adjust to what they’re doing.” Germantown jumped out to a 9-2 lead courtesy of three three point baskets. Kettle Moraine narrowed Germantown’s lead to 14-9 with 1:34 left in the first quarter following a basket by Mikayla Voigt. But Germantown scored the next four points to add onto its lead. An 11-point run by the Chargers tied the score at 20-20 at the 4:42 mark of the second quarter following a basket by Kari Schneiss. A three-point basket by Andrea Meinert gave Kettle Moraine Lutheran a 2522 lead at the 2:29 mark. The Chargers held a lead between 2 and 6 points throughout the third quarter, and opened up a 43-36 lead following a three-point basket Voigt with 35 seconds left in the third quarter.
Germantown kept it close, as a three point basket by Erika Berry cut the Charger lead to 46-45 with 5 minutes remaining. But Kari Schneiss answered with a three point basket at the other end. Meinert led all scorers with 21 points. Afterward, the Chargers had a 16-1 record. Other girls results Slinger lost to Waukesha North Feb. 11, 33-17 in a nonconference match. Afterward, the Owls were 5-4 in the Wisconsin Little Ten Conference and 10-6 overall. Hartford lost to Jefferson in a nonconference match Feb. 11, 58-38. Afterward, the Orioles had a 5-5 Little Ten record and a 612 overall mark. West Bend East lost to conference leader Wisconsin Lutheran Feb. 7, 47-46. Rachel Staplefeldt led East with 13 points. Afterwards, East was sixth in the Little Ten with a 4-5 record and 7-10 overall mark. West Bend West beat Kewaskum Feb. 11, 39-33 in a nonconference match. Libby Brugger led West with 18 points. Afterwards, West had a 4-12 overall record. Living Word Lutheran beat Hope Christian Feb. 8, 47-31. Afterwards, Living Word was fourth in the Midwest Classic Conference with a 7-3 record and a 9-7 overall mark. Boys results West Bend East lost to Little Ten Conference leader Wisconsin Lutheran Feb.

KML's Ethan Bublitz led all scorers with 21 points. Living Word Lutheran lost to Midwest Classic Conference leader Brookfield Academy Feb. 11, 76-45. John Winter led Living Word with 23 points. Dear Dr. Winter, my teeth are not in good shape. I have soft enamel that decays easily. Previous dental work is deteriorating, there is an odor coming from a back molar. I no longer want to continue to deal with never ending cavities and bad taste. I am interested in implant fixed dentures (probably mini implants due to cost). Dear Jan, before you write off your remaining teeth, it is important to realize that strategic saving of teeth can help protect implants as teeth have ligaments which act as “shock absorbers” that implants lack. Many people feel that it is easier to extract all teeth and have implants and for some people that is the best course of action. However, if there are nice teeth that are healthy, it is not always prudent to remove them just to place implants as there are always risks, complications and implant failures to be taken in to account and while the percentage of implant success is very high, sometimes it is better to work around nice teeth then to remove them. If your remaining teeth have periodontal disease and there is infection then it may be better to remove them and use dental implants to restore your lost teeth. Implants can be placed around the arch to support a screw- retained denture, a cement retained denture or a fixed bridge with porcelain teeth. Typically you would need a minimum of 6-9 implants to restore an upper arch. If you can’t afford that number of implants a Snap-on-denture with fewer implants may be considered until the remaining implants can be placed. It is important to realize that mini-implants are the last choice for a full arch restoration as they are only used to retain full dentures. They are not substantial enough to support bridgework that would closely mimic having your own teeth. With mini-implants your teeth do need to be removed for 6-8 hours a day or you can develop a yeast infection so these are not a “fixed denture” as you requested.
