Hillcrest Neighborhood Association November 2017 Newsletter

Dear Greg, Hope everybody and a scary, spooky, and safe Halloween! Short and Sweet for this newsletter. Great food provided for the Fall Potluck. And there were a lot of people and good music there also. Thanks to everyone who was able to attend. If you can help 'winterize' The Big Rock on Saturday it would be much appreciated. And a Memorial Tree for Missy Hamilton is being established. More details below. Oh, and one more thing! Remember to turn BACK your clocks sometime this weekend.

HNA FALL POTLUCK SUMMARY A HEARTFELT THANK YOU to the many neighborhood volunteers who made our crockpot cookoff such fun (15 dishes in all)! Cudos to the chefs, to the neighbors who showed up early to help set up and those who stayed late to clean up, to the organizer of the kids' games, to the donors of the raffle prizes, to the merchants who provided prizes for the kids' games and the cookoff, to the school resource officer and her witch friend, to the Old Fangleds for music, to the Hillcrest School staff for use of their cafeteria and the custodian who served us on a Sunday. Naming names would run the risk of leaving someone out, so this sincere, but general thank you will have to do. The food was so special that someone suggested we compile a recipe book, and since we have to be creative to keep a little money in our treasury, we might consider this as a fund raiser. There are videos posted on Facebook (@HNALawrence) and on our HNA Website. (Sorry I can't put videos directly into the email, but check out these sources above for the awesome videos and pictures....mmm donuts!)

You may have noticed that the boulder has started to lean backward. We are working with the City to try to address this year yet. After our next Board meeting we can provide further details hopefully.

REMEMBERING MISSY Probably at least half the Hillcrest neighborhood knew Missy Hamilton (our former newsletter editor) and her dog Luna. She contributed so much to the concept of neighborliness that HNA promotes that in her honor, Betsy Evans is collecting donations for a memorial tree to be planted at the Rotary Club's Arboretum with her name on the plaque. The City of Lawrence Forestry division will plant a tree of choice and maintain it for $250. A walnut and brass plaque costs $100. Contact Betsy at [email protected] or 840-6888 if you would like to participate in this memorial to Missy.

HNA BOARD Board Members are Sean Williams, Michelle Davis, Greg Huebner, Donna Butler, Bev McMurray, & Betsy Evans. There will be one more Board meeting before the end of the year. The exact date, time, and location is yet to be determined.

Don't be shy. Contact Us at [email protected]!
