ARTIFACT 2: COMMUNICATIONS & COLLABORATION Can you communicate and collaborate with others using technology to complete your coursework? EXAMPLES: •

Using technology to collaborate and communicate with others locally and globally to complete coursework. This could include participation in wikis, blogs, email, collaborative documents, social networks, online surveys, and video conferencing for academic purposes.

Communication & Collaboration: The student has used digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively on the assignment, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others. The technology was used appropriately and supports curriculum content. What students should be able to say in the final reflections: “As a student, I have used digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others.”

ARTIFACT 3: RESEARCH & INFORMATION FLUENCY Can you use more than just a Google or Wikipedia search to gather information? EXAMPLES: • •

Using digital tools such as online databases (Ebsco, LitServ), specialized search engines (Google Trends, Scholar) surveys or RSS feeds (Reader) to gather, evaluate, and use information effectively. Using online research organizers, fact finders and checkers, world newspaper archives, documentary and streaming video databases.

Research & Information fluency: The student has applied digital tools and strategies to gather, evaluate, and use information to support the course curriculum. What students should be able to say in the final reflection: “As a student, I apply digital tools and strategies to gather, evaluate, and use information to support my learning in the content areas”.

ARTIFACT 4: CRITICAL THINKING, PROBLEM SOLVING, AND DECISION MAKING Do you know how to use technology to solve problems, extrapolate information and make decisions? EXAMPLES: •

Identifying problems, creating methods of investigation, collecting data, and making informed decisions based on finding. Tools could include calculators, surveys, GPS devices, mapping software, spreadsheets, graphing software, flow charts, and concept maps.

Critical Thinking, Problem Solving and Decision Making: The student has used critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools, strategies, and resources. What students should be able to say in the final reflection: “As a student, I use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools, strategies, and resources.”

ARTIFACT 5: DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP Do you use technology appropriately at home and at school? EXAMPLES: •

ARTIFACT 6: TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS & CONCEPTS Can you manage digital files and take basic care of a computer? Examples: • • •

Using digital applications effectively and demonstrating how to name, paste, convert files, and folders. Using strategies to effectively troubleshoot problems. Using virus protection software, disk scans and defragmenters. Complete more specialized tasks such as run file searches, set up printer connections, and take screenshots. Adjust user settings (screen magnification, keyboard shortcuts or text narrators) for comfortable personal use.

Technology Operations & Concepts: The student has demonstrated a sound understanding of digital tools and technology concepts, systems, and operations. The student will be asked to: create, rename and move files; convert files to other formats; search for a document; run a disk scan; locate and use the printer setup and control panel; demonstrate understanding of menu bars or ribbons for two pieces of software; take a screen shot of each of these tasks to use as the artifact.
