Conceptual Physics Interactive Notebook The purpose of your Interactive Notebook is to keep all of your work together. Some materials will be given to you to glue into your Interactive Notebook, others you will write or draw yourself. Scientists use notebooks to keep track of everything they do including experimental procedures, data collected, personal reflections and things they have learned. Your Interactive Notebook will represent everything you learn in Conceptual Physics so be sure to keep it up to date and complete! What goes into your Interactive Notebook? 1. Unit Outline & Table of Contents – At the beginning of every unit you will be given a Unit Outline that explains the unit you will be studying, important vocabulary words, pictures and equations. This marks the “front” of the unit in your notebook. The next page will be the Table of Contents for that section. You are responsible for recording everything in that Table of Contents that you put into your notebook. Your teacher will use this as a guide for grading your notebook. 2. Big Questions – In each unit you will be given some “Big Questions” that you will answer before we study the topic and then again at the end of the unit. This will help you learn to apply what you have studied in class. 3. Daily Warm-up Question – Every day you will write the date and the warm-up question into your Interactive Notebook. Try to answer the warm-up question by yourself first, then we will all go over it together. 4. Lecture Notes – A few times in each unit your teacher will lecture about a topic. There are also pictures and demonstrations that may help you learn. You do not have to copy notes word for word but should write down what you think are the most important points. 5. Class Practice – Sometimes your teacher will give you practice questions to complete in class. These will be glued into your Interactive Notebook so that you can refer back to them to study. 6. Lab Activities – All of your procedures, data collected, graphs, etc. regarding your lab activities will be glued into your notebook. You may have to finish work at home by taking your notebook home. 7. Cool Downs – Just like we warm-up our brains for science in the beginning of the period, you will have a Cool Down at the end of the period. These Cool Downs may be review questions or practice problems and we will due them when time allows. Interactive Notebook Grading All of your work for the class outside of homework will be in this notebook and it will be important for you to bring it with you to class every day. If you forget it, you will have to take notes on separate paper and glue it into your notebook. Before you turn in your Interactive Notebook be sure to check that all of your assignments are included, complete and labeled correctly. Your Interactive Notebook will be graded based on completion and effort. Your teacher will tell you in advance when the notebook will be collected and remind you what should be in it. Sometimes your teacher wants to record when you complete an assignment in your notebook by giving it a stamp. This “time stamp” tells the teacher later that the assignment was done on time; not all assignments will be stamped.
