Croydon Cat Club 14/02/2009 Stephen Parkin My thanks to Pat and the committee for the invitation to judge. A big thank you to Maria for coming to steward for me and her careful handling of a number of worried exhibits. In the morning a fault in the PA produced a constant mixture of hums and crackles, which I’m sure was the cause of many upset exhibits. The quality of some of the classes was super. It was the first time I’ve ever given an extra second. MALE FAWN ABYSSINIAN NEUTER 1ST PC & BoB PATEY’S CH & PR MYCENE MACGREGOR, 6.3.01. Very worried by the hiss of the speakers and an ongoing aerobics class, this boy did allow a full examination. A well balanced exhibit. Despite his veteran status, he has a strong, muscular body with commensurate legs and neat oval feet. Tail balances the body, for length, tapering from a broad base. Head has a medium wedge, with gentle contours. The profile shows a well defined nose-break, good depth of chin and an even bite. Well set ears, following the line of the wedge. Well set eyes a rounded almond in shape. Clear facial markings, no white at all, no leg bars or necklets, well ticked although the undercoat was paler than I would prefer. Solid dark fawn spine line and tail tip, some darker fawn on the hocks. Preferred the pen to the table today. FOREIGN ARISTOCRAT ADULT 1ST RAVENSCROFT’S GOLUBOI ELANEC, Female Russian Blue, 8.4.02. Well balanced girl with a long elegant body, matching long legs with small neat feet. Tail in proportion to the body, with a gentle taper to the tip. Head has a balanced Russian look, with a short wedge, very good top of head with large, vertically set ears. Eyes are almond in shape and a clear bright green in colour. The profile shows a distinct angle but has heavy line across the brow. She took her own time to show well formed, prominent whisker pads. Very good depth of chin and an even bite. Coat soft overall and dense apart from on the rump, which needs a little more body. Medium blue in colour with extensive silvering, blue to the roots. Tail shows ghost rings. A very friendly exhibit who handled well despite the ongoing noise. 2ND WICKS’S MEMPHIS AFRIKAISI, Female Silver Egyptian Mau, 9.3.08. Firm feel to this girl, fairly long body with an elegant look. Legs and feet in proportion, tail balances the body in length tapering from a medium base. Head is a gently rounded wedge with parallel lines to the nose giving the desired “worried” look to her. Well set eyes of a clear green colour. Ears well set, medium in size, with a wide base. Firm chin and an even bite. Spots well contrasted against a silver agouti base. Distinct spots form the spine line ad has attractive small spotting on the feet. Some faint tarnishing on the muzzle and rear legs. Rather cautious about coming out but handled well enough to assess. 3RD DARBY’S SILVERSMOKE MIRACLE. A.V. FOREIGN DEBUTANTE ADULT 1ST ALGER-STREET’S CATHLENTA TYPHA JETSTAR, Female Bombay, 31.3.08. Promising young girl, with a balanced body with a strong hard feel to it, slim legs with matching oval paws. Tail balances the body for length. At present the head shows a longish muzzle. Firm chin and a level, but inward facing bite. Large ears, broad at the base, well set. Very attractive eyes of good shape and set a deep gold colour. The coat is close and fine, jet black with a deep glossy shine, sound to the roots. Worried by the background noise but did come out and handled well.
2ND SLAVEN’S OWLSDENE MARBLED MONTAGUE, Male Brown Marbled Bengal, 9.3.08. A most attractive youngster, good length of body which is very well developed for his age, very muscular and powerful, with good breadth to the chest. Well grown strong legs with large round feet Tail even, proportionate to the body for length. Balanced head broad across the eye line with a strong muzzle with well developed whisker pads. Gentle slope to the profile, a broad nose and a firm chin. Sadly this boy was another casualty of the ambient noise level and I did not assess his bite. Large rounded eyes and medium ears well set. Well marked, white on lips and chin which extended will down the throat. Clear facial markings, excellent asymmetric marbling over the body some glitter on the legs. Coat short to medium soft with pleasing density. A real pity that he was so upset A.V. FOREIGN SENIOR ADULT This was one of the most satisfying and difficult classes it has ever been my pleasure to judge. A large quality class, with exhibits well worthy of a 1st prize left unplaced. 1ST DAVIS’S MAUISHA NEPHERHOTEP, Male Silver Spotted Egyptian Mau, 21.1.07. A truly excellent exhibit. A well developed boy, very much the “finished article”. An elegant well proportioned medium body with well developed muscle tone. Legs and feet proportionate to the body. Tail balances the body, tapering gently to the tip. Head has true Mau expression, showing a gently rounded moderate wedge. Face on the parallel lines of the nose produce an appealing “Worried look”. Large well set ears. Eyes a bright gooseberry green, well set and almond shaped. Gentle line to the profile, firm chin and an even bite. Medium length coat, very dense with a resilient feel to it. Well defined facial markings. A clear silver base coat free of tarnish with distinct ticking. Random spotting with good definition. Spine line well broken, leading to a solid black tail tip. Unperturbed by all the background noise, a very happy exhibit who handled very well indeed. 2ND ALGER-STREET’S GR CH TYPHAST HURRICANE, Male Brown Spotted Bengal, 1.6.06. A beautiful example of the breed. A large, well grown, muscular body with commensurate powerful legs and large round feet. Tail is broad and even to a rounded tip. A strong broad neck supports a broad head with a medium wedge. Well set medium ears with a wide base. Expressive large rounded eyes. Profile shows a gentle curve, broad gently rounded muzzle, with a broad nose and well developed whisker pads. Good depth of chin and a level bite. Well define facial markings, coat soft and dense warm apricot base coat with clear two tone spotting showing very little linkage, well broken spine line. Rather worried out of the pen but did allow a full assessment. Stood to good effect when returned to his pen, and was then happy to show himself off. X2ND DARBY’S GR CH THICKTHORN MEADOWSAFFRON, Female Chocolate Ocicat 20.03.05 Another quality exhibit, sadly distressed by the noise in the hall, she took a lot of coaxing to allow a full assessment. Well grown mature girl, with a long firm body, limbs and paws in proportion. Tail balances the body, tapering gently from a wide base. Head shows very good Ocicat expression a moderate wedge with gentle curves. Well defined whisker pads, producing a squared muzzle firm chin and an even bite. Profile has a gentle dip Large well set ears at 45°, Eyes large and rather round, but she was a very worried girl. Coat short and fine with a satin-like texture. Strong facial markings, clear chocolate spots well distributed, on a warm copper agouti base coat “bulls eyes” on both sides of the body. Spine line well broken in to spots, desired rings on the tail. Well worth the time we spent assessing her.

A rather unbalanced kitten at present. However the overall body conformation is good. Legs commensurate to the body with small neat paws. Tail balances the body for length. The head has a reasonably short wedge but is rather fine in the muzzle, although whisker pads are developing. Chin is a little shallow, but has a level bite. Rather worried but handled well despite all the noise 3RD KENNY’S ELANAYANASTACIA BROWN. A.V. FOREIGN NOVICE NEUTER 1ST ROWAN & SMITH’S MEMPHIS AMUN RE, Male Neuter Silver Egyptian Mau, 9.3.08. Whilst the underling bone structure of this boy is good, he is a little plump which detracts from the elegance of the breed, making his legs and tail a little disproportionate. Well balanced head with a gently rounded wedge, parallel lines to the nose which has a gentle curve to the nose. Medium sized ears well set, appealing gooseberry green eyes, of the correct shape and set. Firm chin and an even bite.
