Section IV Shooting Sports Competitive Shooting

Limited Freestyle – Allowing the use of any nonmagnifying sighting device – no mechanical release use. Unlimited Freestyle – allowing the use of any combination of sighting devices including optical sights and/or mechanical releases.

It is not necessary to have taken “Hunter Safety” to compete in 4-H Shooting Sports. Competitive shooting participation is limited to members who have successfully completed the respective shooting sport project as outlined in the Shooting Sports Handbook. • Minimal age requirements for participants in specific shooting projects have been established. • Participants will compete within their age group. Age within an age group is with respect to 4-H age, age as of January 1 of the current fair year. • However, with respect to fireburning events; participants may compete if his/her 12th year birthday is before April 30 by discretion of the project leader. Such participants would be included in the 12-14 age group. • Competitive Shooting Contests will be held prior to the fair. The dates of these contests will be made known to all qualifying project completers. Premiums for Section IV – Competitive Shooting •

Two competitive shooting events; each with four age group divisions and three shooting categories. EVENTS: Indoor Target Archery Shoot: 8 rounds of 5 arrows per round. Total possible score is 200. Outdoor 2-D Archery Shoot: Shooting from 12 different stations, each station with a different still image. Total possible score is120.

Air Pistol Target Shoot: Shooting at 10 meters with open sights in a single shot fashion specifically using either a one-handed or a two-handed hold. Participants may enter both categories (classes). Only 0.177 cal. lead pellets may be used as ammunition. DIVISIONS – AGE GROUPING

CATEGORIES (bow type & accessories) Barebow – Any bow type may be used without the aid of mechanical release or sighting devices. Sight brackets must be removed from the bow. No peep or other on string sight may be used. Stabilizers may not be used.

All entries will be conference judged on Tuesday of Fair Week in the Youth Expo Building. Time of judging will be 1:00 to 6:00 pm. All posters intended for wall display should be no smaller than 11” x 17” or larger than 22” x 22”. Open to all members enrolled in a shooting sports project. All entries must be the result of the members efforts during the interim of the previous and the current county fair. Please consider the safety of, and the security for, the items within your exhibit or display. Some entries require a lockable display case with a viewing cover of a “plexiglass” type material. Display case construction will NOT be a criterion of judgment. You must attach a fair entry tag to your entry to qualify for premium awards.

Class Number 32. A poster or scrapbook depicting the youth leader’s involvement with his/her project along with a written accounting of the experience. 33. An essay on the youth leader’s experience along with a summary of what the youth leader has learned through this experience.
