Category O STUDENT AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS The Board encourages the administration to maintain a set of criteria and procedures for presenting letters or other suitable awards to students for scholarship and distinguished service in any school activity. The administration is authorized to review and approve, or reject, proposed trophies, prizes, scholarships, or other awards from non-school donors. Acceptance shall require affirmative answers to the following questions. 1. Are the criteria for making the award acceptable to the administration? 2. Are the purposes, either implied or explicit, of the proposed award consistent with our school goals? Academic Awards and Recognition: Recognition of academic achievement is an integral part of the educational process in the Moultonborough School District. Administration shall notify parents/guardians of school related assemblies, recognition dinners or other events where their child will be presented an academic award and/or recognized for their academic achievement. Notification shall be made in writing or by telephone in advance of an event. The notification shall indicate the date and time of the event and that their child will be receiving academic recognition. Notification of individual parents will not take place for events at which all students are recognized for their participation (athletic awards, band and chorus awards, etc.) In the event that a student or group is eligible to attend a national/international leadership convention or a national/international competition due to outstanding individual performance in a program, efforts shall be made by the student or group to secure funds through independent means. Any student or group requests for additional school district funds to assist with attending a national/international leadership convention shall be awarded up to but not to exceed $500 per individual student. Requests will be made to the School Board and reviewed at least one month prior to the event.
