This month is going to be rich in music and events! Let’s start “in bellezza” with the celebrations we have organised for la Festa della Repubblica (June 2nd): the Italian Ambassador Alessandro Levi Sandri will be there to have a brindisi with you! Don’t miss this event! (details on page 2) After this, there will be special days for music and opera lovers: our Colazione (page 3) will feature a talk regarding “La Traviata”, Giuseppe Verdi’s masterpiece, and a few days later, “Dante Alighieri Chamber Music Series” is going to open its season with a concert for flute, cello and piano (page 4). If you’re a fan of Italian soccer and don’t want to miss Italian matches at the Fifa World Cup 2014, meet with us at “Gina’s” to watch and make comment on the first match (Italy vs England). And last -but not least- let’s talk about Festival Italiano: the most famous Italian tenor -Andrea Bocelli- is opening the season with a concert at Vector Arena.

Festa della Repubblica La nascita della Repubblica Italiana avvenne nel 1946, a seguito dei risultati del referendum istituzionale del 2 giugno dello stesso anno, indetto per determinare la forma di stato dopo il termine della seconda guerra mondiale. Si trattò di un passaggio di grande importanza per la storia dell'Italia contemporanea dopo il ventennio fascista ed il coinvolgimento nella seconda guerra mondiale ed un momento della storia nazionale assai ricco di eventi, cause, effetti e conseguenze, che è stato anche considerato una rivoluzione pacifica dalla quale si produsse l'attuale forma di Stato. [...] Il 2 giugno 1946, insieme alla scelta sulla forma dello Stato, i cittadini italiani (comprese le donne, che votavano per la prima volta in una consultazione politica nazionale) elessero anche i componenti dell'Assemblea Costituente che doveva redigere la nuova carta costituzionale.
