COURSE DESCRIPTION: In Grades 6-8, students understand in greater detail the function of the body, learn to measure their own performance more accurately, and develop plans for improvement. Identifying the types of activities that provide them with enjoyment and challenge and that will encourage them to be physically active throughout life is reinforced during instruction in these grades. ATTENDANCE/GRADING If a student is in attendance at school, s/he will be asked to participate in class. The physical education grades consist of the following:    

Students who dress out and actively participate will receive full points for the day. Students who do not dress out will not be allowed to participate and will lose all points for the day. Students who dress out but do not actively participate will lose points based on level of participation. Students will receive a weekly grade which will be a total of the points earned during the week.

2. Excuses: a. If a student is not to participate in class due to illness/injury, s/he is to bring a note from parent/guardian/nurse b. If a student is to be excused for more than 3 consecutive days, a doctor's note is required (see handbook) c. If a student is to be limited in participation, a doctor's note is required 3. Miscellaneous: a. No jewelry or gum (safety) b. Anytime there is an injury, notify the teacher c. Lost and found located in or near the physical education offices. d. If something is stolen during class, notify teacher(s). The potential for lost items will be reduced by locking items in the assigned area.

REQUIRED MATERIALS: Each student is required to have his/her physical education shirt, physical education shorts, socks, and shoes for each and every class. Students are assigned a secured area to use during class. Students are responsible for keeping all items locked up in their secured area during class. Physical Education uniforms can be ordered online through the Kaffie web store.

GUIDELINES FOR WORKING WITH A GROUP: 1. Respect everyone's feelings 2. Use each others' strengths, not weaknesses 3. Be a part of the group in some way 4. Give positive feedback when someone does well 5. Compete to improve your group, not necessarily against other groups 6. Safety 7. Anticipate unsafe situations 8. Try everyone's suggestions and then formulate/try what will best fit your group.

Program Description: P.E.P: Prevent Injury and Enhance Performance this is the building blocks of Team Dolphin. Team dolphin is a hard core and strength conditioning program. The program includes:        

Running, with emphasis on pace, and stamina. Abdominal workouts Core workouts Push ups Stretching –Reduces to possibility of sport related injuries Stretching Plyometric (a type of exercise designed to produce fast and powerful movements). Sport specific games and activities are also a weekly part of Team Dolphin.
