NARRATIVE: Story language within Traditional Tales NON-FICTION: Labels, lists, guides and signs for a Toy Museum Main texts :Goldilocks/Twisted Tales, Old Bear, Paddington

Number and Place Value:    

Reading:  

Apply phonic knowledge and skills as the route to decode words. Read common exception words, noting unusual correspondences between spelling and sound and where these occur in the word. Read most words quickly and accurately, without overt sounding and blending, when they have been frequently encountered. Read aloud books closely matched to their improving phonic knowledge, sounding out unfamiliar words accurately, automatically and without undue hesitation. Make inferences on the basis of what is being said and done. Writing (Composition):

    

Use some of the characteristic features of the type of writing used. Use adjectives to add detail. Sequence sentences to form a short narrative. Join sentences with conjunctions and connectives. Vary the way sentences begin.

Addition and Subtraction:  Solve problems with addition and subtraction, using concrete objects and pictorial representations  Recall and use addition and subtraction facts to 20, derive and use addition and subtraction facts to 100  Add and subtract, using concrete objects, pictorial representations and mentally, two digit numbers and ones, two digit number and tens, two, two digit numbers, adding three one digit numbers  Show that addition can be done in any order and subtraction can not  Recognise the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction Geometry (Properties of shape):  Identify and describe properties of 2D shapes (sides, vertical line symmetry)  Identify and describe properties of 3D shape (edges/vertices/faces)  Identify 2D shapes on the surfaces of 3D shapes  Compare and sort 2D and 3D shapes and everyday objects Measures:  Choose and use appropriate units to estimate and measure length/height, mass, temperature, and capacity, using rulers, scales, thermometers and measuring vessels.  Compare and order length, volume/capacity and record using ≤ ≥ =  Recognise and use symbols for £ and pence, combine amounts to make a particular value  Find different combinations of coins to make the same amounts money  Compare and sequence intervals of time  Tell and write the time to 5 minutes, including quarter to and quarter past  Know the number of minutes in an hour and the number of hours in a day

Y1 Seasonal Changes  observe changes across the four seasons  observe and describe weather associated with the seasons and how day length varies. Everyday Materials  distinguish between an object and the material from which it is made  identify and name a variety of everyday materials, including wood, plastic, glass, metal, water, and rock  describe the simple physical properties of a variety of everyday materials  compare and group together a variety of everyday materials on the basis of their simple physical properties. Y2 Uses of everyday materials 

identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for particular uses find out how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.

Autumn Term Planning Theme for Key Stage One 2016: A Rockcliffe Childhood Areas of Learning As Historians we will learn about what it was like to be a Rockcliffe child from the past. We will research the local area by talking to older members of our families, looking at photos and exploring books and video. We will use our findings to help us design a toy that would appeal to a child from the past. We will visit the Discovery Museum to help us in our research. As Geographers we will investigate our local area, going on a walk to explore key human and physical features around our school. We will communicate our findings by drawing a map which has geographical symbol, a key and a grid.

Responsible Citizens Community Cohesion

Creative Arts

As members of our local community we will be sharing our harvest celebration with parents and our wider family. This will take place in the Methodist Church in Cullercoats.

We will look at seascapes and explore pattern in sand, rock, sky and waves. We will also explore natural sculpture and learn about the artists Andy Goldsworthy and Winslow Homer.

In RE, children will consider what it means to them, to ‘belong’ and will learn what other believers from different traditions understand about belonging. They will learn how Christians express their sense of belonging through baptism.

Confident Individuals Sustainable environments

As environmentally aware citizens we will learn how to look after our local environment and to live sustainably. We will learn about the importance of minimising waste – saving water where we can, reducing the amount of electricity that we use, and finding ways to travel to school that reduce our carbon footprint. We will compare the ways in which present day children spend their childhood and compare these to that of children in the past.

Well Being

As ‘well’ individuals we learn to recognise both our own feelings and the feelings of those around us. We will learn how to express our feelings in positive ways. In response to the change in the school year, will set ourselves goals and learn how to develop persistence in order to meet them. We will think about how to make healthy choices in terms of both food and exercise.

As Scientists we will learn about the basic needs of humans for survival, which will include nutrition and exercise. We will learn how to keep the important organs in our body healthy, developing a good understanding of which foods are needed for optimum health. We will learn to identify and compare everyday materials, investigating how their properties reflect their use in manufacture of everyday objects. We will learn how to work scientifically, observing through videos, books, first hand observations and measurement, to enable us to understand growth in humans. As Design Technologist we will take part in a variety of practical and creative activities which will help us develop the skills that are needed for us to design and make our models. We will take part in cooking, learning how to ensure a healthy and varied diet. We will find out where our food originates from. As Artists, we will learn how to use a range of artistic tools and techniques to represent both past and present representations of our local area.

In ICT, In Year One we will find out about simple machines that we can control, eg remote control vehicles, programmable toys and sound recorders. We will also learn to use technology to animate and create our own sounds and images. In Year Two, we are learning how to use desktop publishing programmes to present our writing to different audiences, and will be working as animators, making simple stop-frame animations
