Youth Council for Suicide Prevention (YCSP) Pediatrics Emergency Department Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center Role: Co-Facilitator and Co-Coordinator PI: Lisa Vaughn, Ph.D.

This Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) project aims to empower youth to be leaders in suicide prevention while taking action to improve the health and well-being of Cincinnati youth through action research. This project also assists the pediatric emergency department in improving their suicide screening services. Responsibilities include: preparing lessons and materials, facilitating research and action decisions, training youth for data collection and analysis, and planning for community outreach events. 2016 – Present

Prevalence Study of Mixed Methods Research and Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) Role: Co-Researcher PI: Melissa Dejonkheere, Ph.D. This prevalence study examines all published studies that use Mixed Methods Research (MMR) with a Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) approach in order to: describe the nature and scope, articulate the purpose and design, characterize the contribution, and identify methodological, structural, and procedural challenges to MMCBPR designs. Responsibilities include coding and interpreting literature pulled through a literature search.

GRIT, Student Satisfaction, and Emotional Readiness in Higher Education McMicken College of Arts and Sciences University of Cincinnati Role: Graduate Research Assistant Supervisor: Lisa Holstrom, EdD, Senior Assistant Dean Developing surveys and analyzing data for McMicken College of Arts and Sciences to assess student satisfaction with enrollment, career preparatory and experiential resources, academic and emotional readiness in higher education, and GRIT. Also responsible for facilitating focus groups to augment quantitative data, creating a data dashboard of key performance indicators, providing advising services for students, recommending strategies for improvement, and reporting to deans.

Photovoice with Off the Streets Program, Inc. Anna Louise Memorial Inn – Cincinnati Union Bethel Role: Facilitator PI: James Canfield, Ph.D. This program examines perceptions about health care, substance abuse, and trauma among 28 women who were once involved in IV substance abuse and sex work by utilizing Photovoice methodology. Responsibilities included facilitating focus groups to discuss health care, substance abuse, and trauma through Photovoice assignments.

Evaluation of the Cincinnati Health Department Reproductive Health Toolkit Maternal and Infant Health Division Cincinnati Health Department Role: Co-Researcher PI(s): Farrah Jacquez, Ph.D., Jennifer Mooney, Ph.D. Worked with the staff of CHD’s Reproductive Health and Wellness program to evaluate the efficacy of the Reproductive Health Toolkit (thebodyshop) in improving knowledge, self-efficacy, and confidence in birth control, as well as reproductive life planning, STIs, and healthy relationships. Responsibilities included formulating research question and design, composing pre and post-test assessments, managing database, analyzing data, academic writing, and presenting results to board of directors at the Cincinnati Health Department.

semi-structured interviewing with school counselors and a school-wide needs assessment. Responsibilities include: formulating research question, conducting literature review, analyzing assessment data, academic and grant writing, and dissemination of findings. 2015

Assess, Chart, Team-Up (ACT) Math Tutoring Program Role: Facilitator PI: Heidi Kloos, Ph.D. This is a math tutoring program aimed at improving the ability and self-confidence of low-income and underprepared youth, ages 3-18, who are struggling with math. Responsibilities included overseeing programs at two CPS schools, training and overseeing tutors, tutoring, visiting classrooms during school hours to observe math lessons, preparing lessons, coordinating with administrators, parents, and teachers, planning for incentives, administering assessments, and facilitating recruitment events at schools.

iSpace Science Program Role: Facilitator and Research Assistant PI: Heidi Kloos, Ph.D. This is a research program aimed at increasing knowledge and confidence in math and science through interactive play. Responsibilities included administering math and science problems, surveying children on knowledge, perception, and confidence in math and science, and cleansing and analyzing data from over 180 children, ages 3-10.

Bobo Kiki Role: Research Assistant PI: Heidi Kloos, Ph.D. This study examines synesthesia in preschool level language learning. Responsibilities Included administering an experimental reading task to preschoolers, scheduling testing sessions with schools, and operating DirectRT software for administration of tasks.

Children’s Attention Problems (CAP) ADHD Center Children’s Hospital Medical Center Role: Research Assistant PI: Jeffery Epstein, Ph.D. This study is concerned with distinguishing similarities and differences between Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Sluggish Cognitive Tempo (SCT). Responsibilities included administering surveys to parents and children, cleansing data for several cohorts, and running patients through protocol.
