In the fifteenth century, the custom arose of expressing the commandments of the Decalogue in rhymed formulae, easy to memorize and in positive form. They are still in use today. The catechisms of the Church have often expounded Christian morality by following the order of the Ten Commandments. he Ten Commandments state what is required in the love of God and love of neighbour. The first three concern love of God, and the other seven love of neighbour. Three were written on one tablet and seven on the other. he Council of Trent teaches that the Ten Commandments are obligatory for Christians and that the justified man is still bound to keep them; the Second Vatican Council confirms: “The bishops, successors of the apostles, receive from the Lord... the mission of teaching all peoples, and of preaching the Gospel to every creature, so that all men may attain salvation through faith, Baptism and the observance of the Commandments.” he Decalogue forms a coherent whole. Each “word” refers to each of the others and to all of them; they reciprocally condition one another. The two tablets shed light on one another; they form an organic unity. our another person without blessing God his Creator. One cannot adore God without loving all men, his creatures. The Decalogue brings man’s religious and social life into unity. Catechism of the Catholic Church 2064 ff Please pray for a new Bishop of Nottingham: O God, eternal Shepherd, who govern your flock with unfailing care, grant in your boundless fatherly love a pastor for your Church in Nottingham who will please you by his holiness and to us show watchful care. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
Station Mass: This Thursday, 12th March OLOL is hosting Loughborough Deanery for a Lenten Station Mass. There will be Exposition and Confessions with visiting priests from 6.30–7.15pm: feel free to arrive any time during this period. Mass is at 7.30pm. We’re having visitors: it would be rude not to be there ourselves! Light Lenten refreshments in Crypt afterwards. Sacramental Programme: Our children for first Reconciliat ion and Holy Communion will hav e their sessions after Mass this Sunday and their first celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Tuesday. Please move to the crypt for coffee immediately after Mass to give them the space they need — and please pray for them and their parents and catechists. The diocesan appeal to set up the fund to support retired priests has been running for just a year. Every parish is expected to play its part over a four year period. As part of our efforts there will be a second collection this weekend 7th/8th March and you will hear how we are doing and how you can help at the end of Mass. Among the vacancies in Catholic Schools which are now on ololstcharles.blogspot.co.uk please see especially the one for a lunchtime supervisor at St Charles School and a maths teacher at Blessed Robert Sutton. Mothers’ Prayers: Our next meeting will take place on Monday 16th March at 7.30pm in the Church. All ladies are most welcome to join us to pray for our children, grandchildren and all children throughout the world. The meeting lasts for about one hour. Parishioner Edward Quinn is running the London Marathon for “Coping with Cancer.” See the noticeboard or ololstcharles.blogspot.co.uk for more details. Confirmation 2015: All application forms should now hav e reached Fr Colin. The Sacrament of Confirmation will be administered at OLOL on Friday, 2nd October this year. There will be a meeting for all candidates and parents on Monday, 23rd March at 7pm at St Charles’ Church Measham. There will be about twelve preparation classes which will start in earnest after Easter. Next Sunday, Mothering Sunday we welcome children from St Charles School to be inv olv ed at Mass. Pilgrimages: Please take a look at the noticeboard for details of the Diocesan Lourdes Pilgrimage. Teresa Knott from Mother of God Parish, Leicester, is organising a pilgrimage to Poland in October (including Czestochowa and St Faustina’s Monastery) and to the Holy Land in December. Fr Colin has basic details. For more contact Teresa on 0116
