2008 JUN 02 – 2009 AUG 02 4 YEARS MULTIMEDIA / ALLIED EDUCATOR, NORTHLAND SECONDARY SCHOOL As an ASKnLearn staff, assigned to Northland Secondary as a Multimedia Educator and learning management system (LMS) administrator, Lionel supports both teachers and students by troubleshooting issues such as password logins and website content management. Other than support work, Lionel managed a series of video projects with students and practiced classroom management in delivering various multimedia software training. Monthly, he generates LMS usage reports and carries out evaluation of the LMS system with his superior. One of the major breakthroughs of his career was when Lionel coached and managed a group of students for a nationwide video competition and they scored 1st. For his valiant efforts, he was complimented by the principal and was awarded e-Learning Innovator Award from ASKnLearn.

1½ years later, via Head of Department’s recommendation, Lionel transitioned from an ASKnLearn employee into a Ministry of Education Allied Educator officer, performing as a Software IT trainer in Northland Secondary. He inherited the duties from his previous role in AsknLearn and was more involved in innovative classroom management and pedagogy activities. Other than facilitating learning and information sharing, he ’championed’ several learning technology initiatives. One of them includes embedding the LMS access point into the school website and enhanced the school website into a system that is not just used for marketing but to enable the site to functioned as a virtual learning system. Another initiative Lionel lead on was using Google Applications to create an online photo gallery and a video gallery where other than serving as multimedia galleries, they served as video and photo depositories. Throughout his time with Northland Secondary, Lionel assisted the IT Head of Department to manage the Home-Based Learning events of the school. Other than playing the support role for both teachers and students, he conducts presentation and training to both staff and students. Lionel was technically both the driver and administrator to these events. Per Home Based Learning event, he is required to work with the vendor on several activities to maintain the performance of the system. Activities include (1) establishing a communication system between users and the vendors and (2) reviewing and monitoring server performance to ensure smooth running of the operations to Home Based Learning.

On the last year of his work with Northland Secondary, Lionel managed four groups of students to develop twelve videos related to Cyberwellness for a competition. Lionel used the videos to design a cyber wellness curriculum and astonishingly, it turned out to be the most popular segment of the event. In his MSc application to The University of Edinburgh, Lionel was endorsed and given two recommendation letters by the Heads of Departments.
