MAJORITY SUPPORT ENERGY EAST August 30, (Montreal, QC) – A new Mainstreet/Postmedia poll finds most Saskatchewan resident support the proposed Energy East pipeline. The Mainstreet/Postmedia Poll has a margin of error of +/- 2.38%, 19 times out of 20. “The energy east pipeline enjoys majority support across Regina, Saskatoon and the Rest of Saskatchewan” said David Valentin, Executive Vice-President of Mainstreet Research. “Men, Women and every age group support Energy East - only 19% of Saskatchewanians this approve, even after the North Saskatchewan River oil spill.” “It’s a different picture when we look at how Saskatchewanians think the provincial government responded. 47% approved of the government’s response while 31% disapproved. Another 22% were not sure either way.” “Approval for the government’s response was lowest in Regina (40%) and highest in the Rest of Saskatchewan (50%). 46% of Saskatoon resident approved of the government’s response. Disapproval exceeded approval only in Regina (43% to 40%) and younger respondents (18-34) were the most likely to disapprove of the government response. Fully 39% of 18-34 year olds disapproved, while 45% approved.” “We’re seeing a little bit of a generational divide here, younger respondents were much more likely than older respondents to disapprove of the government’s response to the oil spill,” finished Valentin.
