During the past year our BUG has continued to enjoy regular Thursday rides to varied and interesting locations. Additionally Tuesday adventure rides added a mix of starting locations and destinations and in total we guided 90+ rides for the year. Special thanks goes to our members who spent the time researching and guiding rides. There were many special experiences and events shared during the year, specifically:
Annual bike counts. Bicycle Network conducted two counts during the year. Our members participated in both – 7th March 2017 (Super Tuesday) and November 2017 (Super Sunday). A total of 18 members signed up for Super Tuesday and for the November count (4hrs) we arranged to share the time at 3 locations. Unfortunately the old Warringah Shire Council (now Northern Beaches) and some other councils have withdrawn their support from the bike counts. It seems there may be a local initiative for the councils to do it themselves. The two events provide ManMos its major source of revenue and we are very grateful to all those who continue to support this activity. In general the rides have been incident-free however in August Mike Stonell did have a major accident while riding around Black Wattle Bay. The good news is he is now riding again and close to full recovery. In November Jennifer Blackwell organised a 3 night 4 day cycling adventure at Shellharbour. The group of 16 enjoyed 4 rides in the area including circle Lake Illawarra, Kiama and back and short local rides. Thursday 14th December 2017. We held our annual Christmas Party at Skip Kitchener Scout Hall adjacent to Narrabeen Lake. 35 members and partners enjoyed the new venue as it offered shade and protection from the forecast hot day. Thanks to all who helped make the day a success and a special thanks to Jane, Yaffa, Jeanette, Jennifer and Chris who all contributed to planning the meal, purchasing the food, preparing and serving a fabulous menu including drinks, nibbles, mains and dessert. On the day we were further supported with lots of willing helpers setting up, cooking the food and cleaning up. On January 21st John Thixton passed away after battling ill health for over 12 months. The family was encouraged by the large ManMos group who attend the funeral and his Memorial ride. John was a passionate advocate for cycling and he will be sadly missed.
The total number of ManMos members as per the Google Group site has remained constant throughout the year and is currently 63. The core group who actively participate in rides during the year is approximately 30. As most members will be aware we do not charge an annual membership fee as our expenses are met by revenue derived from the bike counts. Account balance as at 28th of February is $2819.48. Expenses since the last AGM are; 16th March Incorporation Fees $44.00; 10th April Flowers to B Power $91.00; 21th December Christmas Party net $673.25; and 5th February Flowers to Elspeth Thixton $65.00. In closing, I thank the committee for their full support during the year and also to each of you for your friendship and positive contribution to our BUG. Regards, Tony Reeve President, ManMos BUG
