Henry’s Hangar By Henry Hartman Ever heard that old saying, "Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it!"? That must be true after this column and my thoughts last month. I had asked the question "What happened to Winter?", and mentioned the lost opportunity to do some skiplane flying with Charlie Tipton. Mother Nature must be a reader of these fine newsletters, and responded with two heavy snowstorms in early February, as everyone well knows. It was so deep that our snowmobiles had great problems going through the soft fluffy snow, and I knew that a plane on skis was in the same predicament. But as I type this month's Hangar column, I'm giddy with excitement! The snow has settled and firmed up, the kids have been making snowmobile tracks all over the farm, and Charlie phoned to say the snow is now good for flying off of. So, this weekend the Hartmans hope to make entries in our logbooks with our first flights in a Champ, and on skis as well. Be sure to attend the March 1st meeting and hear if this episode turns out as expected! Speaking of the March meeting, I'm looking forward to hearing Gary Hartle speak to us. Gary helped us some years ago when we rebuilt and
recovered the yellow Wind Indicator that adorns Gettysburg Airport. As all of us who helped with that project recall, Gary is a great friend and a fantastic educator. We have very fond memories of learning the art of fabric covering and finishing. The results are visible to all visitors to the airport in the form of the "Yellow Bird" that shows the wind direction for all creatures taking to the air. There is one more "Soup-er-Sunday" event scheduled for March. Come out and have a fun and tasty time with your fellow Barnstormers. It's a great way to spend a few hours on a Sunday afternoon, have some fine food, and relax while being an "airport bum"! Until next time, fly safe and keep warm,
Henry

Through the generosity of a number of members, we have a nice collection of aviation books, both paperback and hardcover. A sizable collection of aviation educational and technical VHS tapes are on the shelf. Want to check something out? Easy! There is a three ring binder with instructions to checkout and check-in books and/ or tapes. We realize tapes are a bit ancient, but they work, and there is a TV in the room for viewing if you wish.
