As a result of State legislative action taken last year, the Maine Educational Assessment has shifted once again. This year’s test will take less time, no more than 6 hours compared to 9 hours last year. eMPower ME is the name of the test designed for all Maine public school students in 3rd-8th grades. It reflects the National Common Core Standards which have been adopted as The Maine State Standards. This test will measure skills important for career and college readiness and will be administered this spring via student’s computers.

Three sessions: Two 50 minute sessions of reading only and the third is 25 minutes of reading followed by 60 minutes for a writing section.

Students will have a range of tools such as highlighters, calculators, zoom features, and drag and drop tools available as they construct their responses. Comprehensive The question types go beyond just multiple choice to include short answer and an opportunity for students to respond to multi-step questions and problems that allow students to apply their skills. Designed for all students There is no time limit for taking the test. The tools available allow students with varying learning styles to show what they know. There are also a wide range of supports to accommodate all needs.

Writing and Language Two sessions, approximately 35 minutes each.

Both the Wentworth School and Middle School leadership are working hard to adjust schedules in order to provide students with the time to practice with the online testing tools and then take the tests, while also minimizing the disruption. The testing window runs from March 21 to April 15. More specific details will be forthcoming from your child’s school principal.
