Who Are We? We are a non-profit organization established in June 1972, and committed to the development of literacy and the love of learning. We host guest speakers, Battle of the Books, and the annual “Reading by the Bay” Language Arts Conference.

2014-2015 General Meetings

We support the Bay County Battle of the Books competition, and are involved in community reading projects throughout the year.

Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014 Make and Take Gulf Coast State College 4:00-6:00 p.m.

We support the Florida Reading Association, the International Reading Association, and International Literacy Projects. BCRA presents the Ted Cooper, Robert McSpadden, and Mike Toole Awards annually.

Tuesday, January 20, 2015 Pre-Conference Breakfast Golden Corral 7:30-9:00 a.m.

Why Join? Members have the opportunity to:



Promote literacy by participating in professional development opportunities.



Increase community awareness and involvement in literacy.



Meet with other educators throughout Northwest Florida.

Saturday, January 31, 2015 30th Annual Language Arts Conference “Magical Adventures in Reading” Keynote Speaker-TBA Gulf Coast State College 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Membership is open to: Teachers, administrators, student teachers, paraprofessionals, college/university students, substitutes, parents, community members, and all those interested in the development of literacy and the love of learning. The Bay County Reading Association is recognized as an Honor Council by the International Reading Association and Florida Reading Association.
