Club Business: Regional Reports & AnnouncementsFancy Feathers Club Table at San Marcos, Texas was great. At least 8 club members stopped by the table display by Curtis Hale. There was an autosexing chick contest that really introduced a lot of people to the breed, there was a plaque donated by April Howerton for the winner. Two people brought adult birds to enter into the open class, and the judge came to the table and took a club brochure. In the silent auction (fundraiser for the 4H program), and some eggs were donated for the auction, that also got a lot of interest. Contests- the February layer contest was fun, we had about 10 people participate. We hope to do another egg laying contest in august. 8 people participated in the photo contest, and 3 people participated in the coloring page contest. You can order an Ameraucana egg color chart from www.ameraucana.org. Several members have begun using the Online Auction Color Chart (OACC) as it allows members to compare egg color, feather color, beak color, etc with the wide range of colors. They can be purchased several places online, one of them being http://www.onlineauctioncolorchart.com/ . Club vote: we have Logo A and Logo B for the club members to vote as our final logo.

Logo B
11 members voted at the meeting, and 3 pre-voted. Final results: Logo A 11 votes, Logo B 3 votes. Q&A Panel: Breeding for Improvement Panel Members: April Howerton, Susan Shaw-Cooper, Maria Oakley, Curtis Hale, Rinda Myers. Curtis asked some questions to Susan Shaw-Cooper, an associate UK member who has been breeding Cream Legbars for a while and is unable to attend the AnyMeeting conferences. From Susan Shaw-Cooper: She recently added a few new cockerels from another line and was having trouble with floppy combs. Careful selection can bring improvement in a short time when selecting for a male with a straight comb. True comb stance can't be judged until fully grown. Next year she will
work on pullet combs. She doesn't pay much attention to crest size in her selection, she feels large vs. small crests are related to the amount of outcrossed blood that has been introduced to improve other characteristics of the breed. Maria said this year in regards to color she is going to grow out a BUNCH of chicks and just see what develops from the variation in the chicks. She is NOT interested at this point in outcrossing from other breeds. She just wants to breed a lot, see what she gets, and grow out a lot to get a handle on how the cream gene works. She is seeing a difference in the degree of cream, so she's not sure exactly what to think about what we've been told so far about cream only expressing with two genes. PLEASE NOTE: at this point (41 minutes into the recording) we started having technical difficulties with the audio and had to cut the recording short. You can listen to the last 10 minutes and get a little bit out of it, but see the recent memo for more information on continuing the Q&A.
