I Need a Hero—Part 5

October 25/26, 2014 1 Samuel 17 David

FOLLOWING THE MESSAGE 1) Faith allows us to see what others cannot see and to do what others cannot do. 2) 17:4-7 Meet Goliath From: The University of Intimidation Height: 9 feet 6 inches Weight: 750 pounds Position: Offensive tormentor Favorite food: Shepherds

11) 17:50 David would never have known God’s capacity to show Himself powerful unless he went to the battle line. HEBREWS WORDS Harap (khaw-raf')—primitive; to pull off, to expose (as by stripping); defame Ālâ (aw-law')—to ascend, (be high) or active (mount) Baza (baw-zaw')—despise, contemn (-ptible), + to scorn, vile Yapheh (yaw-feh')—sleek; beautiful

3) 17:17 Jesse was not putting his son in harm’s way. He expected David to arrive while the soldiers were in camp, not on the front line. 4) 17:25 King Saul had offered a substantial reward to the man who stepped forward and accepted the challenge…wealth, his daughter for a wife, exemption from taxes. 5) 17:28 Just as David was about to enter the greatest battle of his life, he was falsely accused for doing and speaking what was right. 6) 17:34-37 David remembered how God had met his needs in the past; therefore he had the confidence to stand against the future. 7) 17:37 David’s courage was cultivated in his personal understanding of God. 8) You cannot be “after God’s own heart” unless you know the heart of God. 9) 17:39 You are uniquely qualified by God to take on the battles He brings your way; otherwise He would not allow you to face it. 10) 17:47 Ultimately, your fight is for the Kingdom. You are part of a much bigger story.
