Organizational Description: Telegraph Hill Neighborhood Center (TEL HI) is a nonprofit organization with a mission to enhance the lives of the people in our community. Founded in 1890, TEL HI provides opportunities for individuals and families to enrich their quality of life. Focusing on low- to moderateincome children, youth, families, and seniors, we create and strengthen community bonds, provide health and wellness programs, and broaden education and cultural experiences. Program services include: Preschool (18 months to 5 years), After School Academy (K-5th grade), Teen Programs at Galileo High School and North Beach Place Apartments, North Beach-Chinatown Beacon Center at Francisco Middle School, and Senior Program. For more information, please go to www.telhi.org Beacon Center: The mission of the North Beach-Chinatown (NBC) Beacon Center at Francisco Middle School (FMS) is to provide youth, families, and community members with a safe and engaging space, offering academic support, enrichment, recreational, employment, and youth development opportunities. Activities and services are offered during the school day, after school, evenings, and some weekends throughout the year at FMS. Position Description: This position will primarily be an afterschool leadership position that will require overseeing and developing the leadership and workforce development programs at NBC Beacon. This position is for someone who truly has a passion for helping students discover and develop their leadership skills collectively and as individuals. Duties and Responsibilities: • Assist in the development and growth of TEL HI’s leadership and workforce development programs, specifically within the North Beach-Chinatown (NBC) Beacon. • Plan and facilitate the Leadership Club at the NBC Beacon afterschool program and other Leadership Workshops, as needed. • Plan and facilitate the Francisco Middle School Student Government program to support students in planning and organizing student driven projects, activities and celebrations at FMS during the school day and after school. • Recruit, provide ongoing supervision, and mentor all leadership and workforce development program participants. • Maintain all paperwork and attendance records needed to track participation and adhere to grant and district specific initiatives. • Establish and ensure compliance to day-to-day program policies and school policies. • Provide program activities that reflect youth development and content-specific best practices while making learning inclusive, developmentally and culturally appropriate. • Collaborate with school faculty and staff on school wide leadership initiatives.
• Attend relevant school district, city, collaborative and community meetings, and other meetings identified by supervisor. • Support TEL HI’S fundraising efforts as needed. • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor. Qualifications: • BA preferred but not required. • One to three years experience working with adolescent youth and their families in a school, community-based or non-profit social service setting, through in-school, after school and/or summer programs. • One to three years experience with building community or building leadership within school, afterschool or summertime programs. • Well-developed organizational skills and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. • Experience and dedication in working with and for underserved and/or immigrant communities. • Proficiency in Chinese, Arabic, Vietnamese, or Spanish a plus. • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. • Ability to work independently and as dynamic, collaborative team member. • DOJ, FBI, Child Abuse Index and TB clearance required. • The successful candidate must meet SFUSD Instructional Aide Requirements: (An AA degree or higher or Official transcripts reflecting 48 college units and a high school diploma/equivalent or Completion of CBEST and a high school diploma/equivalent.)
