Organizational Description: Telegraph Hill Neighborhood Center (TEL HI) is a nonprofit organization with a mission to enhance the lives of the people in our community. Founded in 1890, TEL HI provides opportunities for individuals and families to enrich their quality of life. Focusing on low- to moderate-income children, youth, families, and seniors, we create and strengthen community bonds, provide health and wellness programs, and broaden education and cultural experiences. Program services include: Preschool (18 months to 5 years), After School Academy (K-5th grade), Teen Programs at Galileo High School and North Beach Place Apartments, North Beach-Chinatown Beacon Center at Francisco Middle School, and Senior Program. For more information, please go to www.telhi.org Beacon Center: The mission of the North Beach-Chinatown Beacon Center at Francisco Middle School (FMS) is to provide youth, families, and community members with a safe and engaging space, offering academic support, enrichment, recreational, employment, and youth development opportunities. Activities and services are offered during the school day, after school, evenings, and weekends throughout the year at FMS. Position Description: This position is an afterschool leadership position with the NBC Beacon program to assist with the planning and facilitation of academic support and enrichment opportunities for middle school aged youth. This position is placed at Francisco Middle School and part of a team that is responsible for providing after-school assistance to youth with homework; and creating and leading a wide-range of academic, wellness and social-emotional activities. Duties and Responsibilities: • Facilitate and plan enrichment activities including after school workshops and clubs for youth. • Encourage involvement in program activities by building positive relationships with youth and their families. • Establish and maintain a positive and safe environment for program participants including assisting with classroom and behavior guidance. • Assist with day-to-day operations of Beacon Programs, including registration and data entry. • Incorporate Educational Standards and Youth Development best practices within all program activities. • Increase visibility of program activities through flyer design, marketing, and outreach. • Participate in regular staff meetings and on-going training opportunities • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of all program spaces. • Assist Administrators and fellow staff as needed. • Additional responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor
Qualifications: • Interest and experience working with underrepresented youth in San Francisco. • Minimum one year experience working with children in an educational environment, • Excellent verbal skills, proven experience with activity development and facilitating hands-on educational curriculum. • Proficiency in Chinese, Arabic, Vietnamese, or Spanish a plus. • Possess well-developed organizational skills and ability to prioritize and delegate when necessary. Knowledge of MS Office, Excel, and internet based research. Report writing experience is a plus. • The candidate must meet SFUSD Instructional Aide Requirements: (An AA degree or higher or Official transcripts reflecting 48 college units and a high school diploma/equivalent or Completion of CBEST and a high school diploma/equivalent.) DOJ, FBI, Child Abuse Index, TB clearance required.
