California State Parks Seeks Public Comment on Outdoor Environmental Education Facilities Program SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California State Park’s Office of Grants and Local Services is preparing guidelines to award up to $10 million in competitive grants through the Outdoor Environmental Education Facilities Program. Grants will fund development of outdoor facilities in a natural setting, such as signs, kiosks, nature trails, campfire centers and outdoor classrooms. The program’s draft application guide will be available for public comment from Dec. 9, 2016 through Jan. 27, 2017 at www.parks.ca.gov/grants. Four public hearings will be held throughout California during the public comment period. Potential applicants and interested parties are encouraged to attend a public meeting where comments will be taken on the draft application guide. The final application guide will contain application and grant guidelines that eligible applicants will use to apply for the program. The guide is expected to be released in spring 2017. Applications due in summer 2017. Local agencies, recreation districts and community-based organizations are eligible to apply. The purpose of the public meetings is to accept public comment on the draft grant guidelines for the implementation of the California Clean Water, Clean Air, Safe Neighborhood Parks, and Coastal Protection Act of 2002 as set forth in §5096.600 through §5096.683 of the Public Resources Code.
