As Deficit Grows, So Does Reluctance to Approve New UConn Contract on CT-N Capitol Report: Week in Review

Hartford, CT – This Friday at 7 p.m., Connecticut Network viewers will recap a week where the state’s lawmakers reconsidered the new contract for UConn’s non-teaching staff and committees heard testimony related to the constitutional lockbox proposal, financial aid for undocumented students and opening the state’s medical marijuana law to children on the latest episode of CT-N Capitol Report: Week in Review. The growing state budget deficit and a warning from Governor Dannel Malloy prompted some legislators to rethink a new contract negotiated by the University of Connecticut and nearly 2,000 non-teaching staff members this week. The contract, which without CGA intervention will automatically go into effect next Wednesday, has spurred legislators to consider a vote on the matter in the coming days. Elsewhere at the Legislative Office Building, the Transportation Committee heard public testimony on the Governor’s proposal for a constitutional lockbox for transportation funds, as well as his bill to reduce wait times at the Department of Motor Vehicles. This week’s episode will also review a hearing held by the Public Health Committee that included public comment on a bill that would open the state’s medical marijuana law to children and testimony from college students on bills related to affirmative consent policies and financial aid for undocumented students. Capitol Report: Week in Review summarizes the activity at the State Capitol during the week, using voice over and graphics to combine history, context, and next steps in the process with full-length excerpts from the week’s proceedings. The program premieres on CT-N every Friday night at 7:00 p.m., then rebroadcasts at Noon and 7:00 p.m. on Saturdays, 8:00 p.m. on Sundays, and 6:00 a.m. Monday mornings; check CT-N’s online program schedule for additional airtimes. Each episode runs between 30 and 60 minutes. All episodes of Capitol Report are available online, in keeping with the network’s seamless integration of telecast and interactive content.
