Kia ora, Talofa Lava, Kia Orana, Malo e Lelei, Fakaalofa Lahi atu, Bula Vinaka, Namaste, Ni Hao, Nei Ho, Selamat, Konnichiwa, Kamusta, Salam, Malo ni, Assalaam alaikum & greetings. We are continuing to receive regular new enrolments into Carisbrook School and we have been surprised at the number of enrolments that are for middle and senior classes. It is reassuring to hear from the parents of new enrolments that they have heard such positive comments about Carisbrook School, the school culture, the opportunities provided for students and the quality learning programmes. There are discussions happening here at school today about the feel of snow being around. Lets hope that snow does not eventuate here in Dunedin but just in case, please be prepared. Please familiarise yourself with the following snow day procedures. Snow Day Procedures:In the case of a late start or cancellation of school due to snow or ice, there will be announcements made over the following radio stations from 7.30 am:The Hits 89.4FM or www.thehits.co.nz or Radio Dunedin 1305AM or 99.8FM Or you may like to phone the Radio Dunedin Cancellation Line on 471-7555. Information from bus services will be included in those bulletins. Information will also be available on the school Skoolbag App Should conditions in your area be different to those in the rest of the city you must make individual decisions based on what is safest for your family. Once your child is at school please do not accept communication from them regarding school closures. If a decision to this effect is made, parents will be contacted immediately. There have been times where schools in Dunedin have had to close early due to snow. If we had to make that decision, we would contact all parents and caregivers to come to school to uplift their children. Sports Transportation:Many of our students have made the commitment to play miniball or netball this term at the Edgar Centre. We remind parents and caregivers that it is important that the students turn up for their games in the correct sports uniform and on time for the start of the game. We have recently had a number of students arrive in the office after school on game day stating they don’t have transportation to get to the Edgar Centre. Parents and caregivers, please assist us with this by transporting your children and other players to their game if possible. Reporting on Student Progress / Achievement:Parents and caregivers of year four to eight students can expect to receive a student report closer to the end of this term. Teachers are well on the journey of preparing the student progress and achievement reports. We would love to see a high percentage of parents and caregivers attending the mid year interviews. Carisbrook Swimming Pool:I am very keen to see our school pool operational again and have our students receiving swimming coaching and water experience this year. This morning we have had a successful funding grant given to our school that would cover some of the costs of relining the pool. The pool engineer will be onsite next week to discuss the refurbishment plan. The company is still confident of having the Carisbrook pool operational in time for term four. We are still awaiting news of another major funding grant; fingers crossed! I will let you know the dates that the pool will be refurbished. The company is trying to co-ordinate this with another Dunedin Pool being refurbished. Regards Ben Sincock, Principal
