The Board of Trustees election voting closed last Friday at mid day, however we need to await postal votes before the election results can be made public. The postal votes need to have been date stamped before the 3rd June and be received by the school by the end of mail delivery, six days after the Friday close off. These results will be available tomorrow and will be placed on a poster on the office window. Results are required to be published in the paper and this will be done asap after close off. We have moved from the cold morning frosts to rain. Parents & caregivers, if you require a jacket for your child / children please let us know at the school office. We are lucky to receive support from Kidscan and they have kindly donated jackets for us to provide to children who require these. It is very important that the students arrive at school warm and dry and ready to learn. Times are hard for some families in NZ at the moment and I also want to remind parents and caregivers that we are supplied with milk and cereal so that we can provide breakfast for those students who have come from homes that have run out of food. The students can just come over to the office and we will get them sorted. No judgements are ever made on these students as hard times can affect anyone. A reminder to our Pasifika community at Carisbrook School that we have a Pasifika fono planned for this evening. Parents and caregivers of students identified as being pasifika should have received an invitation via mail. Please come along and join us. Tania Hodges, our Literacy Lead Teacher will provide ideas for supporting students with their reading. We will also have light refreshments available for all. We have someone set up to supervise the children if you need to bring them along. If anyone is purchasing a house and requiring a mortgage, give ANZ the opportunity to provide your mortgage. They have a system whereas people accepting mortgages from ANZ get to nominate a school of choice to receive resource support from ANZ. Our school can use the ANZ donations to purchase either sports goods or technology goods. The Singapore Cultural Exchange group will be running a Family Bingo Night.

Matariki Celebrations
MATARIKI celebrations this year will be on the 18th of June. Again we will be having lots of crafts, food, story telling and singing. Please save this date, if you are a family of the school or part of the wider community and would like to support in some way such as making fried bread, poi making, flax weaving, carving, etc. Please let Rachelle Moors know as we would love to make this just as special as last year. See advert on the last page of this newsletter. Whiria te Tangata Weave the people together. Matariki is the Māori name for a group of seven stars known as the Pleiades star cluster. The Māori New Year is marked by the rise of this star cluster and the sighting of the next new moon. In 2016, Matariki will start on 6 June. The physical appearance of Matariki in the sky was traditionally used by a tohunga (a priest or expert) as a forecast of the year ahead. Clear and bright stars signalled warm and productive seasons, and hazy or shimmering clusters meant a cold winter was coming and ground for crops was prepared accordingly.

Samoan Language Week
Ruma Kekeno hosted Assembly last Friday. As it was Samoan Language Week they embraced it with Samoan song and custom.
Students in the Senior technology programme have been exploring using biotechnology processes to develop food products. They will be serving their products at an upcoming Senior School event (watch this space for more details). They've been learning about fermenting yeast and sugars by making ginger ale.
The seniors in the sustainable living elective have been working hard to develop healthy food options suitable for a school canteen menu. They have tweaked their recipes to make them suitable for the Maggi Pop-up Kitchen Showdown competition. We have Mexican burgers, curried parsnip and chorizo soup to wild boar pizza. You can support our students by going to the Maggi site and vote for your favourite.
