N EWSLETTER N O . 09 F RIDAY 31 M ARCH 2017 Dates For Your Diary

Dear Parents, Friends and Students, As I reflected on the Lenten promise I made, I thought about the many times I was tempted and failed and the many times I triumphed over the temptation with the help of prayer. Dianne Burgant speaks to us, “At Easter we renew our baptismal vows. What is it that we really renounce? Ours is a world of violence, of prejudice, of indifference. Too often we harbour feelings of anger and resentment, of selfishness and disdain. Easter proclaims that Christ has died and has risen; with him we die to all of the wickedness in our lives and in our world, and we set our hearts on higher things, on sincerity and on truth.” Today I pray that we look to a hopeful future where the renewal of promises made for us at Baptism and by us at Confirmation, are kept and that when we find them hard to keep we are humbled by the forgiveness of others. As Easter people Pope Francis asks us to search out those who are afflicted, especially the poor, refugees, and marginalised and pray that they find comfort and welcome in our community of disciples of Jesus. What a wonderful first term we have had. It has been very settled learning environment, rich with activities that have challenged the children to be the best they can be. We have had a number of Extra Curricula activities this term including Flow time, Teddy bears picnic for Foundation, Garden time and Cooking with Mrs Trower. Our senior students have had a fantastic term with the highlights being Camp and representing our school at the St. Patrick’s Day mass. Our term concluded today with Mass and with a liturgy for Stations of the Cross that took a contemporary approach so that it connected with the students’ understanding of Jesus’ journey with the issues in the world of today. Congratulations to the PNF for the organisation and distribution of the Easter Egg bags for the Children’s ward at the Frankston hospital. The children of St. Anne’s have done a lot of talking about the need to think of others less fortunate than ourselves. This is one way that has helped to develop the children’s understandings of Social Justice. Term 2 will start with the Alleluia Celebration day that will involve a liturgy at 9.15 in the hall followed by the Easter Bonnet parade. Please make your Easter Bonnet over the holidays ready for Tuesday. Also on this day the St. Kilda football team will be visiting the children from 3 – 6 for a workshop. On the First Friday back to school the school leaders will represent St. Anne’s at the Seaford RSL’s schools ANZAC day service.

On behalf of Rod and myself I would like to thank you, our families whose input in the school is so important. I also wish to thank our dedicated staff who works tirelessly to cater for the individual needs of our students and families. I see the work of the Lord in the way these people care for your children. Lastly I would like to thank our Parish leader Father John for his guidance this term. I wish you a happy and Holy Easter and a refreshing holiday that brings you back safely for Term 2 on Tuesday 18th April. Warmly, Sally Thomas

eLearning @ St Annes From Term 2 St Anne’s is a Hapara school. Hapara gives us another level of cybersafety to help our students use the internet and softwares safely and effectively. Hapara also gives teachers and students the ability to interact online through the Google suite of programs, making for rich learning opportunities and equipping our students with valuable skills.

Seaford District Cross Country Trials: Date: Friday, 26th May with Friday, 2nd June 2017 as back-up date. Venue: To be confirmed. 

If Friday, 26th May not used as a back-up day for the Seaford District Athletics Track Trials, then th Friday, 26 May will be the District Cross Country Trials date.

As an eSmart school, cybersafety is our priority. At home you can back it up by making sure your children are safe online. www.esafety.gov.au is a great site with resources for parents to look at and bring in at home. Go to the Education Resources > iParent. It is worth a look and backs up what we do at school.

*Parents please note that 9 year old students competing at the District Trials are not selected for the Seaford District Teams. Their participation at the District Trials provides them with much needed experience necessary for competing at such trials from age 10 years.
