________________________________________________________ School Achievements / Additional Activities We have had a huge number of activities taking place in school this half term and have noted some of these: (a)Skipping Fun Congratulations to our Year 4 children who came first in the North Tyneside Skipping Festival. The children created some original moves and were especially commended on the use of a scooter, a space hopper and exercise balance balls in their dance routine. Well done to everyone who took part! A special thanks to Miss Malcolm and Mrs Belilios for training the team. (b) Shiremoor Treat Congratulations to our football team who won the under 9’s football competition at the Shiremoor Treat. They played extremely well, winning all of their games. Our thanks go to Mrs Brunton and Mr Steadman who trained the players. (c) Pirate Day Last Thursday children in Reception classes enjoyed taking part in a pirate day. They came to school dressed as pirates and had fun taking part in many activities, including finding ‘treasure’ and ‘walking the plank’. Thank you to parents and carers who were able to join them at the end of the day. (d) RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institute) Year 2 had a visit from two volunteers of the Cullercoats lifeboat crew. The children were so impressed by the work of the volunteers that they decided they would hold a cake stall to raise some money to support them. They baked hundreds of cakes and sold them to family and friends, raising £114.50. George and Michael of the lifeboat crew came to our special assembly last Monday and were presented with a cheque. Well done! Thank you to everyone who supported this worthwhile cause. (e)Super Hero Day Children in Nursery had great fun at their Super Hero Day last Friday. Parents and carers also came at the end of the session. (f) Bees Local bee-keeper, Mrs Soulsby, visited Year 1 to talk to the children about the importance of bees to the environment. (e) Go Noodle Year 1 had a great morning at The Parks where they took part in a ‘Go Noodle’ event. Children were involved in a variety of fun, interactive activities. 1

(g) Ofsted report Our Ofsted report has finally arrived in school, later than expected. This is an excellent report. A copy has been sent out with this newsletter. (h) Year 4 As part of ‘My Money Week’ each Year 4 class was given £25 with the aim of making that money grow. They sold crafts and plants (kindly donated by Mr and Mrs Rolls). They used the profits to purchase resources for the year group. (i) Rotary Club All of the children in Year 4 were fortunate to receive an Usborne illustrated Dictionary from the Rotary Club of Whitley Bay. The president of the Club presented each child with their dictionary at a special assembly last week. Thank you to our friends in the Rotary Club! (j) Sports’ Day We have been unlucky with the weather on a couple of occasions. However we didn’t want to disappoint the children and inconvenience parents with further possible dates, so took the opportunity on Thursday and Friday to hold the events on the playground. (k) Summer Activities St Peters and St Andrews churches in Whitley Bay are running a summer initiative called CLAP hands (Children's Lunches and Play). Children, aged 5-12 years can come along from 12.30 to 2pm, enjoy a free lunch and take part in play activities. The sessions will run every Tuesday and Thursday during the holidays. A flyer has been sent to children in Years 1, 2, 3 and 4. (l) Outdoor and Adventurous Year 2 enjoyed an afternoon of Multi-sports at Valley Gardens Middle School. (m) Fire Safety Fire Fighters visited Year 2 recently to talk to the children about fire safety. (n) Dinner Money From September, the cost of a school meal will be £2.10 per day for children in Years 3 and 4. (o) Staffing News We are saying farewell to Mrs Armstrong-Reed who is leaving us at the end of term. We thank her for her work with us and wish her every success for the future. We welcome Miss Buick who will be joining our Reception team. Finally We would like to thank you for the support you have given us throughout the year. It really is appreciated. We wish the children in Year 4 every success as they move to Middle School. School closes this Wednesday 20 July for the summer holiday. Do remember that the Autumn term starts on Tuesday 6 September2016. We wish everyone a restful and enjoyable summer holiday. 2
