NFMS Cheerleading Expectations & Procedures Absenteeism: School:

All cheerleaders must have a good school attendance record. This includes tardies and early release days.

Practice:

Squad members are expected to be at all practices unless absent from school on the day of practice. **All appointments should be made on days that practice is not occurring if at all possible. ** No other extracurricular activity may interfere with cheerleading practice unless prior permission is given from the coaches. A squad member who must miss a practice is responsible for letting one of the coaches know as soon as possible. A squad member who does not dress out for a practice will be counted ab-sent. This includes proper practice clothing and shoes.

Activities:

Each squad member is expected to attend all cheerleading activities. If any activity is missed, the same rules apply as for missing practices. This includes any pre-game activities such as making banners or decorating players' lockers as well as SPIRIT NIGHTs and fundraisers.

Games:

If a squad member is absent from school on the day of a game, she cannot cheer at the game; unless emergency and pre-approved by AD. A squad member is required to attend all games. Sickness and family emergencies will be excused. Dress for game days at school will be uniform, bow, shoes, and leggings. Dress for games will be uniform and shoes. Hair must be pulled back in a ponytail with a bow. You cannot wear nail polish or jewelry.

Competitions: Squad member must be prompt for competitions. Dress for competitions will be uniform, shoes, and bow. Hair must be pulled back and secured in a ponytail with bow. You cannot wear nail polish or jewelry. Punctuality: Squad members are expected to be on time to practices, games, and competitions and be ready to participate at the designated times. All snacks must be eaten before practices and games. Cheerleaders may NOT use the vending machines after school or else they will be late for practice. The use of cell phones during practices or games, including Twisters, is prohibited unless permission is given by one of the coaches.

NFMS Cheer Packet Page 4 of 6

Squad members are expected to have a ride directly after practice, games, and competitions.

NFMS Cheerleading Expectations & Procedures

Cheerleading Standards: You are a member of a special squad. You are looked upon as a leader in your class. It is your responsibility to fulfill that role. School Behavior: A squad member should follow ALL school rules. This includes dress code, attendance, and behavior. A squad member should strive to make the best grades possible. This means doing homework, listening and participating in class, and setting an example for others to follow. Injuries: We understand that cheerleaders may become injured during cheerleading or outside of cheerleading. If a cheerleader cannot participate in any part of practice, games or competitions, we will require a doctor’s excuse. Once the cheerleader is healed, we will need a doctor’s release. Miscellaneous: Any coach may call additional practices or change practice days if the need arises. This is usually done close to the time of competitions if more practice is needed or if there are conflicts with school activities that were not known at the time practices were set. Participate in some form of Summer Conditioning. Part of being a competition cheerleader is being physically fit. Conditioning will be part of our regular practices. Over the summer, we suggest: Make sure you are in a tumbling class as well as stunting class if you are new to these skills Everyday work on jumps and splits (sitting in your splits will help improve your tumbling and jumps).
