Oh Sweet Canada
Blessed. We feel so blessed to have the friends, family, supporters, contacts, churches and acquaintances that God has placed in our lives. The 3 months we spent in Canada was an extremely rich time for our family as we had the opportunity to connect with so many of you. Ruth and Pascal enjoyed all the different experiences they had, and so did we! Everything from cow herding, to roof fixing, hover boarding, fish catching, swimming, hiking, biking, camping to rock climbing! Our kids got to do some exciting things including: going to petting zoos, children’s parks, dinosaur museums, boat rides, tractor turns, quad cruises, and camp fires. We had an amazing and refreshing summer with all of you in Canada. Adjusting to the late sunsets took a while, especially in Grande Prairie where we celebrated Canada Day at midnight when the sun finally decided to (mostly) go down. The kids, who are used to 6pm sunsets all year round, had a little trouble understanding the new “early” bedtimes.
Some of the most special times we had were sharing the ministry of MAF in churches and worshipping alongside brothers and sisters in Christ. It is still extraordinary to me that we can crisscross the globe and always find places where God is worshiped and Christ is present. God truly is everywhere and His people are spread throughout this world. THANK YOU so much for your support, especially during our home assignment. Many of you helped with houses, cars, meals, clothes, car seats, rides and sharing all of the above experiences with our family. Thanks for blessing us so much and for allowing us to share that blessing with people here in Congo!

Back to the Pilot Seat
Since being back in Kinshasa we have hit the ground running with work, life and ministry. I’ve even had a few chances to get off the ground with some flights. The program was very short-staffed with a few pilots and mechanics also gone during the summer and now that we’re all coming back, the flights are really… taking off. One trip I got to be a part of was taking our Cessna Caravan from Kinshasa, Congo all the way to Rand, South Africa for its paint job. We don’t have the appropriate facilities and equipment for the delicate and precise task of painting an entire airplane and it’s something that only happens about once every 10 years. So we have been working on repainting several MAF aircraft from our Africa fleet which includes flying them down South for a makeover. The trip was almost unbelievable. To see so much of this beautiful continent from a relatively close up perspective, was really magnificent. To be able to see the vast open spaces, the jungle rain forests, the savanna areas, the lakes and the wildlife was an out- The Route to South Africa and Back standing experience. Another reason the trip was so meaningful was because of the company I had during the journey. Jon Cadd has spent most of his life as a MAF bush pilot in Africa and had a story for almost every river we flew over. His love for this place and its people was a big encouragement to me and I really benefited from spending a few days alongside him. While I was gone we also had other flights going on, including several for WHO (World Health Organization) in support of the yellow fever outbreak and for World Vision to deliver vaccines for sleeping sickness. We also had another medivac flight for someone needing urgent medical care in Kinshasa. In short, it’s good to be back and serving where we’re needed. And we look forward to more years here and to see what God has in store for our ministry with MAF!
Seasons 5 years ago this month we arrived in Kinshasa bright eyed and bushy tailed. It’s hard to believe that so much has happened in what seems like so little, but also such a long time. We never know for certain what the Lord wills for our future, but for now we are content to say we feel in the centre of His will continuing to serve here in Kinshasa with MAF. Just as we were welcomed here with open arms 5 years ago, we have had the pleasure of passing on all that blessing by welcoming Brett, Jaclyn and their 3 kids who arrived in Kinshasa just a few short weeks ago. We have been helping to introduce them to Kinshasa and MAF in Congo. It gives me great pleasure to make friends with this family as they are from Airdrie, Alberta. Getting used to life in Kinshasa is quite the learning curve but despite all the stress, culture shock and sleepless nights, they are taking everything in stride. Please be in prayer for the Reiersons over the next few months as they continue to settle in, and for God to reveal the plan He has for them in this place. Also pray for us as we embark on our second term with MAF in Congo for His will to be done in all our lives.
