Christmas Installation Rally Far Horizon 49er RV Park
December 4 - 8, 2013 (1 PM check-in) Coupon Due November 23, 2013
Hosts: Karen & Dennis Co-Hosts: Shirley & John
It’s that time of the year again. Time to reunite with good friends, enjoy good food, sing those favorite songs and enjoy the cool brisk weather. We hope everyone is ready to come enjoy a fun and relaxing rally in Plymouth, an incredibly beautiful area this time of year. Let’s start off the season with a lot of Christmas Spirit! Wednesday is arrival day, with time to settle in and chat with friends. There will be happy hour and a welcoming dinner. Thursday will mostly be on your own, visiting friends or exploring the many small towns and boutique wineries in the area. There is a possible tour. If there is no tour we will do a craft project. We will have happy hour and the president’s farewell dinner and awards reception. Friday there will be a board meeting in the morning. At noon we will have the incoming and outgoing board luncheon at a local eatery. Everyone is invited to attend. We will have happy hour followed by dinner on your own. Later in the evening we will celebrate birthdays and anniversaries and have our gift (See “Christmas” Page 8)

Wandering, with President Claudia “Not All Who Wander Are Lost.” Well, what can I say., I have been informed by our Poppy editor that this will probably be my last musings as your president. SO here goes: Being your President was not the strenuous task that some might think. Don’t be afraid to run for a Unit office. Meetings aren’t such bad things; there aren’t really that many; you get the chance to discuss topics with some very interesting people; and if you are lucky, eventually you get to bang the gavel. Now, I cannot speak for the Registrar, Membership or Rally Chairs, nor the Chairmanship of a Region Rally (and let’s not leave out the Poppy editor), but it seems to me that these people have been the true backbone of our Airstream group this year. I tip my “Duchess Cap” to each and everyone of them. If you missed the Region Rally in Lodi, you missed a genuinely friendly, fun Airstream event. Gregg and Val outdid themselves and Tom and Hedda supplied our guests with nifty raffle prizes. The rally was able to contribute over $1000 to our local charity and we shared food with the Salvation Army. As I was delivering the check to the Women’s Center and hot dog buns, orange juice and milk to the SA, I knew that this is true Airstreaming. Not only sharing good times and the road with friends, but helping others. Being there when needed. I didn’t make my goal of getting more people to the rallies, but the Unit did sign up over 20 new members and several of these were people who sought us out at a rally or on the internet. Next year’s officers will surely continue to share our love of getting together. However, I do believe I was able to reach my second goal: open communication. I tried to be honest when my opinion was sought and always to speak out for the good of the membership. In turn I thank my Board Members and Committee Chairs for keeping me in the loop. By the time this is published many of this year’s ballots will be cast. Others will come and all will be confirmed at the Betabel Rally in San Juan Bautista. I want to wish next year’s officers safe travels. Hopefully if I do not see you at Betabel, then I will be able to visit with you at Plymouth in December. As I used to say in my youth, “It’s been real.” Claudia
Prior to the start of this rally, Jackson Hall was transformed with great decorations, grapes, grape vines and Airstreams! Thank you to all who helped. The rally began on Thursday, October 10. We had a great team of greeters and parkers, and people arriving at the rally got parked and settled in without too much trouble. Not a small task, when you consider we had 65 rigs, some from as far away as Canada, and often people caravanning together. Thank you to this team of workers. Meals were prepared and served, by other members, and several people worked hard behind the scenes to make this rally happen. So again, THANK YOU to everyone in NorCal who had a part in putting Silver Among the Vines together. We heard a lot of positive compliments from those attending. There was a variety of activities from a swing dance to wine tasting, Zumba seminars. A special Thank You goes to our Unit President, Claudia, for her help and leadership during this entire process. During this last year we learned a lot about WBCCI and Region 12. Since this organization holds a tax exempt status, one of our goals for this rally was to give back to the local community. International has been donating money to the Wounded Warrior Fund, and we felt local agencies could also benefit when Airstreamers came to town. This year, each unit in Region 12 was asked and donated a basket, with items representing their unit in some way. Some other special gifts were also donated. On Saturday evening, there was a raffle-drawing, and we raised over $1000 from the tickets sold. The lucky prize winners were pleased, as was the Women’s Center-Youth and Family Services Agency in Lodi. (see-- www.womenscenteryfs.org for more information on the agency.) When Claudia presented the check to this non-profit, she mentioned the agency was very appreciative of the gift, and it is my hope that the community of Lodi, will remember the Airstreamers coming to Lodi in a positive way, and will welcome us back. By the way, after reading the Region 12 article in the October Blue Beret, Bob Stansbury is soliciting feedback. Feel free to contact him at
[email protected].
Thank you!
Let’s hear it for Claudia!
…and another round for Valri and Gregg and all the NorCalers that made this rally a success!

Welcome to the first NorCal winter Carally. The fun begins in Olema, our fullservice base for the first eight days. Our next and final stop will be for four days at the Pelican Point RV Park in Half Moon Bay, also a fullservice park. While in Olema we will venture to San Francisco's Italian North Beach to see a matinee performance of Beach Blanket Babylon, a San Francisco tradition. After the show we will enjoy dinner at nearby Capp's Corner, a favorite Italian restaurant. An Alcatraz tour is on the list along with a special guided look behind the scenes of AT&T Park, home of the SF Giants. For trolly buffs there is the F-line with vintage trollies from other states and countries. These take you to the Castro and back, and also along the famous Fisherman's Wharf. The New Exploratorium Science Museum is also nearby. You might want to visit the California Academy of Science in Golden Gate Park. Here you can explore an aquarium, planetarium, natural history museum, and a rainforest all under one living roof. We have plans to visit Forts Berry and Baker, with time for an Irish Coffee at the Buena Vista Cafe and chocolate at Ghirardelli Square. A little Dim Sum in Chinatown, and don't forget shopping at Union Square. Not far from the campground is the Marin Headlands with the Nike Missile Site, and the town of Sausalito and it's harbor. I could go on and on as there is so much to do. We will list more interesting things for you to decide yourself what you would like to do. Moving down coast, via Hwy 1, we stop at Half Moon bay's Pelican Point RV Park. Here we have 4 days and nights. We will have a meal for you after you set up in camp. Nearby is Ano Nuevo State Park . We will have a guided tour of the Elephant Seals rookery during breeding and birthing season. January and February are the best times to see the action here. We will not be far from the Winchester Mystery house built by Mrs. Winchester after she lost a child and then her husband and went into a deep depression . She had unlimited funds to add on to the house from the gun that won the West the Winchester repeating rifle. And she did, not always in a logical manner. I have to say I have never been there.
