Hebrews—Part 6
February 22/23, 2014 Jesus is better! Hebrews 3:1-6
FOLLOWING THE MESSAGE 1) Moses was the “high water mark” for men in the Old Testament. If the author shows Jesus to be vastly superior to Moses, then Jesus must truly be great.
Katanoeō (kat-an-o-eh'-o)—observe fully:- discover, w/continuous observation Oikos (oy'-kos)—a family [refers to people, not a building] :- household Therapōn—a voluntary servant who acts because of affection Parrēsia (par-rhay-see'-ah)—all out-spokenness, frankness, bluntness; by implication assurance :- bold (-ness of speech) Kauchēma—something one can boast about, rather than the act of boasting
2) 3:1 We are called holy (sanctified) because we share in God’s calling. 3) 3:1 Put your focus on Jesus, and let it remain there. 4) 3:1 An apostle had the power and authority of the one who sent him. An apostle spoke completely on behalf of the one who sent him. 5) 3:1 Jesus is our high priest because He is the One who brings God and man together. 6) 3:2 Moses carried out all God asked of him. Moses was trustworthy in that household. 7) 3:3 Moses was faithful, but he was a part of the house. Jesus made the house. 8) 3:4 This is a powerful argument for the deity of Jesus: If God built all things, and Jesus built God’s house, then Jesus must be God. 9) 3:5 Moses’ faithfulness was not just for his own time. He was faithful to speak things that were yet to come in Christ. 10) 3:6 We have boldness and confidence because of Jesus. Therefore, we should not cast away our confidence, no matter the circumstances. 11) 3:6 We can neither save ourselves nor keep ourselves saved. Continuance is the proof of reality. 12) The reason so many Christians are weak in their faith is that they do not keep considering Christ. The result is that His full strength and leadership are not theirs. GREEK WORDS
