KEVIN O’SHEA, CPA School Business Administrator/ Board Secretary
November 2016 Dear Parents, Guardians, and Residents: My monthly superintendent’s update letter is posted on our district website to keep our parents, guardians, and residents informed about the great things going on at the Central Regional School District. I respectfully seek your input and suggestions to make Central Regional School District a special place. November has been a busy month for district projects funded using our School Choice funds including our new middle school windows that will greatly reduce our heating costs. Another School Choice funded project to be completed this summer is the middle school roof. School Choice continually funds important district construction needs that in the past would go out to referendum to be funded by the taxpayers. Other completed projects include our new shed at our Sports Complex to house all of our sporting equipment in a secure, dry place during the winter months which extends the life expectancy of the equipment. In addition, the new sky lights in the foreign language wing of the high school have been started since our sky lights in our high school hallways create lots of natural light leading to more energy savings. Our host of Academic Academies is expanding giving our students the following opportunities: · · · · ·
The Humanities Academy partnered with Georgian Court University, offers students the opportunity to graduate Central Regional High School with up to 30 college credits allowing them possibility to begin college as a sophomore. Our Leadership Academy partnered with John Hopkins University and Victory Road provides our students the skills necessary to become the leaders of tomorrow. Our new Social Media Academy partnered Mr. Dan Swift and Empire Social Media in New York will allow students the chance to participate in summer Internships in a field that is in high demand in society today. Our Army JROTC Program helps to strengthen student resumes, prepare for military service after high school, and gives many families alternative means to fund college through the College ROTC Program. Currently, we are exploring Block Scheduling which would reduce an average student schedule from 7 classes per day to 4 classes per day under our current schedule. Studies indicate Block Scheduling reduces student stress and helps increase student success in the classroom.
The Central Regional Alumni Association raised $25,000.00 in donations last year during our Eagle Campaign which funded the purchase of three bronze eagle statues placed at the entrances of our high school and athletic field, and in the front of our middle school. This year’s Eagle Campaign is working to raise donations for a new trophy case in the high school gym lobby and the reconstruction of the Bell Tower which had been removed during our turf and track field expansion. Currently, the CR Alumni Association has raised over $4,000.00 but is still short of our goal to complete the two projects. If you are interested in donating please make your check or money order to the Central Regional Alumni Association and mail to the CR Alumni Association, P.O. Box 150, Bayville, NJ 08721. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 732‐269‐1100, ext. 206 or via e‐mail at
[email protected]. Sincerely,
