Albany Public Schools Foundation Annual iSwim for Kids Event Central and Takena Elementary is actively participating in the Albany Public Schools Foundation’s (APSF) annual iSwim for Kids event this year. Half of the money raised in each classroom goes directly back to your child’s classroom. The other half goes to the APSF classroom grant program. The APSF grant program supports grants that are awarded yearly to classroom teachers. This year Central and Takena received over $4,000 in grant funding from the foundation to support an artist in residence at both schools, spring track club, and mileage club at recess time. The iSwim for Kids will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017, 811:00 a.m. at South Albany Pool. Principal Shogren will be at the pool for Saturday’s swim to cheer on students who are swimming their laps or walking on the South Albany High School track. Pledge sheets will be available in the office if your child chooses to participate. All pledge sheets must be brought to the pool at the time your child swims or walks. Pledge funds can be brought to the school after the event, or to the pool at the time of the event. Rewards for this year’s Takena and Central participants will be: 1. All participants receive a swim pass for a community swim at the pool. 2. Each student who raises $40 or more in pledges will receive an iSwim t-shirt 3. Each student who raises over $100 will receive a pizza party with the principal during a designated lunch time. 4. If the school raises over $1,200 in total pledges the students who participated may write a letter to the principal to persuade her to do something silly. Mrs. Shogren will read the letters, pick one letter that is the most persuasive, and do the silly act.
(flyer was sent home last week… or, you can also view it on our website)
Excerpt from Facts about Head Lice and How to Control Them “It is a good idea for parents to check their children’s heads for lice as often as once weekly during the months school is in session. If you discover head lice, notify the school. If your child scratches his or her head frequently it is a good idea for parent/guardians to check their hair.” Bike Safety Postponed… will be rescheduled in the Spring! PTA Happenings Fall Carnival (Friday, November 3, 5:30-7:30, at Central): Central-Takena PTA is making plans for it’s annual Fall Carnival. Would you like to help? Contact us at
[email protected] or CentralTakena PTA on Facebook. OSU Science Night for Takena and Central: January 11, 6:30-8:00, at Takena Meeting Date Change: We’ve changed our meeting day and will now meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month during the school year. However; it will be the second Thursday in December. Join us at the next meeting on Thursday, October 19, 7:00 p.m. at Central Elementary. Central T-Shirt Sale The Central-Takena PTA will be selling Central-themed t-shirts and spirit gear when school lets out tomorrow, Tuesday, October 3, outside of Central Elementary by the west door exit. The PTA would like to get a new t-shirt design made up that will incorporate both schools. In order to get the ball rolling on this project we need to sell our remaining spirit gear from Central. We have both youth and adult sizes left! T-shirts are $5; sweat-shirts, lunch bags and knapsacks are $15. Bring cash or check made to CentralTakena PTA. Volunteers If you are interested in volunteering in our buildings, don’t forget the following… 1. You must have a current approved back-ground check; and 2. You must have read the Volunteer Handbook, signed the contract, and returned it to the school office. Central & Takena Parent/Guardians: The prize has been confirmed… an Apple iPad! That’s a pretty spectacular prize, so make sure you are reading the newsletter each week so you know when to send in a note. We will have two drawings this school year… one in January and one in June. Complete details were in last week’s newsletter. If you missed it you can still view it online. ☺
