Ohio ENA Customary We, the members of the Ohio Emergency Nurses Association place a high value on human dignity, respect, and civility in the lives of ourselves and our members. We understand these values are essential to maintaining a healthy community where all of us may interact without fear or undue anxiety. We understand we will sometimes address controversial issues, about which people feel passionately. We support opportunities for civil discourse within the organization and Board yet recognize that disagreements can sometimes lead to uncivil behavior. We believe incivility and disrespect can have a damaging effect on our organization and cannot be tolerated. Therefore, we recognize the following 11 rules to guide behavior and direct us to positive resolution of the issues we face: 1. Show Respect: Honor other people and their opinions, especially in the midst of a disagreement. 2. Be Prepared: Read all documents sent in advance of meetings and participate appropriately. 3. Pay Attention: Be aware and attend to the people around you. 4. Listen: Focus on others in order to better understand their point of view. 5. Be Inclusive: Welcome all people working for the greater good of the organization. 6. Don’t Gossip: And don’t accept when others choose to do so. 7. Be Agreeable: Look for opportunities to agree. Don’t contradict just to do so. 8. Apologize: Be sincere and repair damaged relationships in a timely manner. 9. Give Constructive Feedback: When disagreeing, stick to the issues and don’t make personal attacks. 10. Take Responsibility: Don’t shift responsibility and blame onto others. Share disagreements publicly, not behind closed doors. 11. Benefit of Doubt: Assume a miscommunication has occurred prior to assuming that malice was intended; seek clarification on message and motive.

6. Conflict of interest forms

G. Gillespie did not get hard copies of these forms for all executive board members to complete. Ultimately a copy of the COI was found in the policy and procedure packet.

7. Role Conflicts (Dual State and Chapter Officer)

Discussion around conflict in the event that an individual is holding two roles in the organization that may have a conflicting impact. It is important to have a process in place to ensure that the conflict of interest in known to all. Discussion included concerns regarding developing a policy or a guideline. There is some concern regarding why individuals are holding offices at both the state and local level. • K. Gallagher presented the OENA and chapter spread sheets- see pages 23-37 of meeting packet. • A CD for $40,000.00 is up for renewal. Discussion ensued regarding the best option for this sum of money. • A motion was made to move the current funds in the CD to a 5 year CD. The motion passed unanimously.

8. Finance Report

D. Schwytzer, K. Napier and G. Gillespie completed COI forms J. Burnie will save COI form and send to other executive board members to complete and scan back to save with meeting minutes. When a member holds dual offices this will be discussed openly prior to the meeting to ensure role clarity.

J. Burnie

CD for 40,138.29 will be moved to a 5 year CD.

K. Gallagher

Future discussion regarding options for balance in the checking account after 2017 budget is determined as well as information from National ENA office.

11. State Chapter Treasurer Checklist 12. OENA Leadership conference

Clarifying information regarding the ability to get to the money in the event that it was needed with a penalty. • There is currently $100,000.00 in the OENA checking account. Questions regarding what would be the best thing to do with this sum of money. Gordon recommends holding off any decision here as the National ENA has mentioned some upcoming changes. • Monthly audits are up to date pending a meeting after today’s meeting with Akron chapter treasurer. Deferred until August meeting.

K. Gallagher and R. Fulling will meet to complete required paperwork.

The executive board met and discussed the potential of chapter awards. It was determined that chapter awards are not necessary but that announcing awards at the OENA meeting and putting significant awards on the OENA website is appropriate. Deferred until August meeting

Members or chapters with significant awards can let one of the OENA board members know and this information will be relayed to the Webmaster for placement on the OENA website.

meeting from 9a-12, followed by an hour lunch break and the educational conference will follow from 1p-4p. The information will focus on a Treasurer and Leader educational offering. See page 38 of meeting packet for draft agenda. All new treasurers and at least one other leader from each chapter are expected to attend. This should be communicated as an expectation when each chapter is having elections in the near future. In the event that this expectation is not met the chapter will come under the auspices of the OENA until arrangements are made for 1:1 training with K. Gallagher. A quick review of excel function and a discussion about conflict management and work life balance will be added to the agenda. Concerns arose over confusion regarding the Street Smart educational offering. M. Singleton had made arrangements for the OENA to offer 2 sessions of this training. One session was offered in Cincinnati last fall. At a

previous meeting Akron chapter had stated that they wanted to host the Street Smart education as one of the chapter offerings – they would be responsible for all fees incurred. The Seagate chapter agreed to host the OENA grant funded offering. When R. Fulling made arrangements with Corporal Toth he told her that Akron chapter only needed to pay for hotels and food for the speakers. As long as there was still grant funding money when Seagate hosted the OENA sponsored event there should be no problem. Concerns arose regarding what will happen if the grant funding is gone in November when Seagate hosts the Street Smart educational offering. Ultimately a motion was made after lengthy discussion and meeting minute review that in the event that there are no grant funds left available the executive board meeting decision for Akron chapter to pay the fee for Operation Street Smart will be rescinded and the OENA will pay any future charges that may be incurred.

P. Cubbage can submit the receipt for the educator of the year award to K. Gallagher by 7/26/16 for reimbursement. J. Burnie sent P. Cubbage an email regarding this information. On 7/2/16 P. Cubbage emailed stating that she has the receipt and will scan it to K. Gallagher

Advertising for the educational offerings may increase attendance. N. Chmielewski reminded everyone that the mission and purpose of ENA is to provide education to Emergency nurses. We could add an awards option at the end. We should evaluate location. Discussion ensued regarding skipping next year’s event and try to do a bigger event in 2018. Do a full one day program.
