The 3 yr. old classes: The month of January brings the three year olds into the new year talking about snow, igloos, winter weather, hats and mittens. We continue to work on our cutting skills. The Fridays Friends Drama Class: January’s Story for Friday Friends will be The Little Red Hen. The children will make their own Little Red Hen. With stick puppets to go with our story, we will act out the story. They will end the month by baking some delicious treats. The 4 yr old classes: The four year old classes will welcome the New Year by decorating party hats. They will cut skis and add their initials, as well as, make bird feeders for the birds in winter.
The teachers will spend time evaluating the children’s progress in preparation for parent conferences at the end of the month. The Passport Program for Fours: The Passport Class will travel to Antarctica, the home of the Penguins this month. Then they are headed north to Iceland to see the Northern Lights. Finally the class will arrive for summer in Australia where they will visit the Great Barrier Reef and learn about the Aboriginal people. The Kindergarten Class: Happy New Year! The Kangaroos will journal their wishes for 2014 as we celebrate a new year. We’ll make hot chocolate mugs and write a “cozy” word on them. In math we’ll experiment with calculators and learn about three-dimensional shapes. Inspiring Minds Music and Math with a Twist---Winter brings the magical story of The Snowman by Raymond Briggs to the music and math class. The children will make their own snowmen after watching the movie, assemble a special ruler to measure snow, and graph the number of letters in their name using snowballs. They will explore high and low sounds in conjunction with measurements and continue to develop their keyboard skills. World of Science---January will be an exciting month for our scientists. We will learn about rocks and how they are formed. This will lead us into the explosive world of volcanoes! Reading Railroad---The season of winter will give the reading class the opportunity to design and describe a simple snowman story. They will use the names of winter clothing to make and read short sentences. Computers---We continue our focus on animals with a computer activity where the children learn how animals adapt during different seasons of the year. For the next two months we will be working on a book of the animals we have studied. The children will color pictures of the animals and then use the computer to find a fact about each animal that will be added to the picture. Parents, you and your children are our best advertisement. Please recommend us! I can't thank you enough for all your support. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance to you! Happy New Year!
