Parshas Tzav By Rabbi Shmuel Gluck: The Parsha instructs the Kohanim to remove the ashes with different, less expensive clothing than they wore when bringing Korbonos. Why was that? Rashi explains that it’s not respec ul to wear the same clothing when cleaning up as when serving a king. R. Moshe explains, from this lesson, which we can conclude that the laws of Derech Eretz, human decency, are more than “a nice thing to do”. The laws of Derech Eretz are, as Reb Moshe writes: Dinim G’murim V’chi’uvim, actual laws and responsibili es. People should consider themselves as responsible to say, "Thank You”, as they feel responsible to wear Tephilin and keep Shabbos. People o en see the Mitzvas that are Bain Odom Lamokom as being more important than those that are Bain Odom L’chaveiro. Our Gedolim, as I have personally experienced a few mes, understand that helping someone may make it permissible, even required, to choose a Bain Odom L’chaveiro over a Bain Odom Lamokom. For example, it may be the correct thing to Daven without a Minyon or to, so to speak, compromise in other areas in order to help someone in need. This contrasts with the upbringing in many families ‐ even whole communi es ‐ where unfortunately individual’s rights aren’t respected. I am trying to shi the balance from people doing personal Mitzvohs towards their doing favors for others. I am trying to convey that, when a Bain Odom L’chaveiro conflicts with a Mokom Mitzvoh, you have a legi mate ques on that needs to be asked. That’s why Torah is more important than Mitzvohs, without, few real Mitzvah The author can be contacted at s
