Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic School Pest Control and Use of Pesticides Our Lady of the Greenwood School (OLG) is committed to providing students a safe environment. It seeks to prevent children from being exposed to pests and pesticides. While pesticides protect children from pests that may be found in the school and its surrounding grounds, under some circumstances they may pose a hazard to children. Therefore, pest control practices may involve a vareity of chemical and non-chemical methods that are designed to control pests effectively while minimizing potential pesticide exposure. This policy does not apply to the use of the following pesticides applications: 1. When used in normal cleaning activities: germ killers, disinfectants, sanitizing agents, water purifiers, swimming pool chemicals, gel or paste bait insecticides, manufactured enclosed insecticides and stations; 2. Immediate student health threat situations (i.e. stinging wasps & bees); 3. Personal insect repellents when self-applied. 4. Areas completely away from student-occupied buildings and areas; and 5. Annually inform parents and staff members of the School’s pest control policy at the time of student registration by a separate memorandum or as a provision in the staff and/or student handbook; Provide the name and phone number of the person to contract for information regarding pest control; Maintain a registry of parents, guardians, and staff members who want to receive advance notice of all pesticide use, and, provide such notice at the start of each school year and during the school year when a student enrolls in or transfers into the school; OLG’s notice at the start of each school year shall invite parents, guardians, and staff members to be added to the pesticide notification list, and the School shall permit a person to be added to the registry at any time upon their request; Provide notice of planned pesticide applications to parents and employees who have requested advance notice; Maintain written/printed/electronic records for two (2) years of any pesticide applications, and make these records available for inspection and copying upon request.

OLG will provide notice to those in the registry at least forty-eight (48) hours prior to the date and time the pesticide application is to occur unless an emergency is declared. The notice will include the date and time of the pesticide application, the general area where the pesticide is to be applied and the telephone number to contact for more information. In case of emergency pesticide applications, because of immediate threat to the public heath, the school shall give written notice as soon as possible. OLG may provide for training of school employees to become certified pest control applicators. Financial support for such training may be provided by OLG subject to budgetary constraints. OLG shall prepare administrative guidelines for the implementation of this policy. OLG follows these guidelines and we are inviting parents and guardians to voluntarily join our Pesticide Notification Registry. By signing up for this registry, you will be notified at least 48 hours prior to a pesticide application at OLG.
